This thread reminds me of one of my older neighbors - he is a nice enough guy, but he always seems to have terrible luck.
Last month, his clothes washer quit working, and he &his wife didn't have the cash to buy a new one at the time. So, another neighbor (not me) gave him a used one that he had still sitting in his basement to use until a new one could be bought. Well, the "free" washer worked for a couple weeks, and this week developed a serious leak which caused a flood in the house, ruining the floor, wallboard, etc. that now has to be dried and out replaced. Now, less than a week before Christmas and he has had to drag half his furniture outside, tear out a wall, carpeting, and rip up the flooring in one room of his house. They say "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth", but I'd have to add "Never accept a gift used-appliance"! Sometimes "Free" is alot more expensive than "New"..
