Printer Power Supply

Having problems with my printer, got it down to a faulty power supply .

I rarely use the printer, I replaced the first ink cartridge about a year ago, I've had the printer seven years .

Are power supplies available, or is it just more realistic to replace the entire printer .

The power supply has three pins on the connector the center is ground, one pin has 15VDC the other pin has 32Vdc .

Depends on a number of factors - as with motorcycle parts, the brand and model number of the printer are necessary, and if you can get a part # off the original power supply that will help even more.

I have bought replacement laptop powersupplies for older laptops from a couple places on the web, including this one (which also has some printer parts)

You might call a Radio Shack to see what they have.
Do you have a Fry's Electronics in your city?

Otherwise, see if you can scare up a computer recycle-er in your town.  They would probably have a pile of them.

I'm expecting that a power supply will be probably more than half the cost of a replacement printer, with the way things go these days !!!!!!!!!!!

Ink jet printers operate on the Razor Blade model pioneered so many years ago by King Gillette.  The manufacturers give away printers so they can sell you the cartridges.  If you don't have a stock of cartridges for your printer, then it is probably far more cost effective to get a new printer.  

Beware though, once opened, the cartridges will dry up over time, so if you really use the printer that rarely, you might find that the cartridge doesn't print even though it has plenty of ink.

So true. I just purchased 3 new HP Office Jet 8000 printers for work. They are big economic to run printers with separate print heads and ink tanks. A full set of inks and heads would cost around £90. After a cash back promotion I paid £43 per printer. Ok the supplied ink tanks are not full but it's still a no brainer. I never buy spares only new printers.

The real problem with this whole sales philosophy is that as soon as the refill market starts stealing ink sales the manufacturer tries to keep a step ahead by moving on to a new model that uses different cartridges. And that's a pain as when I buy a new printer I then have to stock different set of cartridges for our 40 printers.

I asked one of the IT employees that come by and service replace computer terminals, etc..., if he knew where I could get a power supply .

Told me to bring my faulty one in and he would see if they had any obsolete power supplies laying around .

Brought mine in yesterday, he just dropped off three never used power supplies .

Great timing on my part, they were going to discard a bunch of old obsolete parts that were just taking up space .

I opened up my old supply (destroyed it in the process) and found a broken solder joint .

That's a shame about having to destroy the case to look inside.
"No user serviceable parts" indeed!
