Hey, suraklyn!  and THANKS! for being our gracious host.   :D
No problemo.  It's just a shame the provider isn't 100% guaranteed uptime... then again, it's hard finding one that will claim anything more than 99% [that I can afford].

Many thanks for letting this site continue on to it's present home! It has been stated before, that financial help is out here if it ever becomes an issue, all you need to do is ask!

I don't know, Bill, but that would be a good question for Dirk!  I would kinda think no since I think the paralever rear suspension might have eliminated (or drastically reduced) the "cow" aspect of the "rubber cow" nickname.

I can think of no suitable comeback to Mr. Vader...

Been werkin' a bit but now I can check the list. Justin seeing as your gonna be tied up by Abu for a while I was wondering if the motor is a capacitive start motor. kinda like a swimming pool pump motor.

Rich, yes it is and I have a sneaking suspiscion that it is one of the start caps as one of them has a decent dent in it which, I suppose, could cause it to short internally.  My neighbor is a heating/AC contractor and I am going to see if he has any laying around but I'm not really "up" on this stuff so not sure how close to the value I need to be...

The store manager  at HF claimed he plugged in their display model (he was considering loaning me the motor) and it didn't work either...

Justin,
Sounds like your on it. I have had problems with cap motors where the cap was bad/wired wrong/ or the centrifugal contacts that de energize the cap once the motor is up to rpm were not making contact. The last item is purely mechanical and can usually be found under the end cover in the motor. These little points like contacts close the circuit to the cap when stationary and as the motor spins up an arrangement of springs and weighted arms open the contacts. With your mechanical talent you may be able to view these parts and tell if they are closed / open at rest. here are some general diagrams http://tinyurl.com/3bpw32  from http://www.educypedia.be/electronics/motoracsingle.htm

Caught my neighbor outside yesterday and he grabbed a meter and tested my start capacitor and pronounced it good so guess I'm back to waiting for the motor.  Only 5-7 more weeks to go!  I did get the return slip in the mail last week so they were at least punctual about that...

OK, the "slow boat from China" (I always used to think that was just a funny saying...) finally came in.  FedEx snuck by (what's with these guys!!??  They don't even ring the bell anymore...) and dropped a box on the porch.  I drug it out to the shop, installed it, and rotational motion is a beautiful thing to behold!  ;D  Now, y'all gotta help me come up with stuff to do on it to help it earn it's keep so wife.gov doesn't decide I fibbed about it's usefulness.  ::)

I like the idea of modifying some valve covers, I actually thought about how cool this would be while fishing around in the bottom of the drain pan for that stupid 6mm nut while changing the wife's oil the other day.  I don't have any of the "peanut" style covers but do have an extra pair (somewhere) of the later style covers so I'll have to give 'em a look-see.

That sounds like my missus's when I come home with a new toy for the shed...

I usually find that if I tell her, it will also be useful for jobs on her Zephyr she's more likely to believe me, well mostly :D

New motor was installed a few weeks back, I scarfed an old milling vise from e-Bay and milled some new jaws for it yesterday at school.  Today I went out and made a mess with it so I guess I'm in business!
