A hero of mine growing up has moved on to the paddock.........

In the 50's I read anything I could about motorsports and John Surtees was on many many of those pages

The p/o of my bike was a compatriot of JS back in the day, was a top man and a real gentleman.

A big loss to the motorsport world.

As a pro driver now - no racers of our era compare to guys like John. He will be missed.

I was surprised to read today that John Surtees declined a knighthood some years back. He obviously had his reasons.
I do wonder if he'll posthumously be awarded one.

That would not be appropriate his family will be aware of his position on the Honors system and its abuses.

The Palace/Government refuse to list people who have turned down Honors or discus the issues, once they have refused one they are unlikely to be offered another. John made it known that he turned one down, we can only speculate but his reason was probably a political swipe at the Cronyism and abuse. Very nice we have 200 more "Lords" than MP,s (85o ish) who receive £300 a day tax free for merely walking through the door and walking out again   [smiley=wall.gif]  I feel a revolution coming. A knighthood does not give you a seat at the House of Lords but it does put you in the waiting room.

We are more alike that just the language, you have Brexit and we have Trump. If those two don't work it's cap and ball for sure
