Greetings from down under!
Name's Tim, 22, just picked up my first airhead in the form of a grubby - yet charming - little R65LS that came up through a Royal Enfield club member who suggested it to me as a suitable daily rider - Just got it home today, and despite losing daylight searching for a blown taillight fuse (which I later found in what I'm pretty sure is an aftermarket fuse housing from a prev. owner) had a serene twilight ride through the suburbs, and couldn't be more rapt with my most recent acquisition.

So I'm proud to say I'm now an airhead rider and part of this grand community, I've learned much about beemers from skimming through your threads. There seem to be many men of wisdom here regarding technical issues too, so I'm sure I'll become more acquainted with all of you in good time!!  ;)

Also, I heard you guys like pictures, so while these are still online...:

... And Muth's (in?)famous fairing:

Nice! :)

I had been watching that one. Glad to see it has gone to a good home.

Aussie invasion eh? So far the locals have been very friendly.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Monte, I assure you 'grubby' is a term of affection for this particular bike - It's obviously seen its fair share and I'm not sure how much of it is original but that "used and loved" feel makes me like it even more!

And thanks Mike, personally I think it's nice to see folks from US, UK and Aus bonding over our bikes. Even though they're German! (World war what?)  ;D

Welcome Tim.

I am based in Cairns, Far North Queensland, and therefore part of the Australian take-over putsch.

Enjoy your new hobby.

Welcome Tim,

I saw that one on ebay and saw that it went up twice after being passed in the first time.  The bidding indicated it went for about the same as the original price.

There was a blue '81 R65 for sale south of Brisbane this morning, posted at $1,800 negotiable.  It was gone by the early afternoon.

Enjoy the forum.

Cheers, Dave.

Guilty as charged.

The very first game I ever played on a computer was an artillery game on an Osborne 01.

Shortly after I built my own S100 system which hung around for years eventually growing a pair of 8" single sided, single density (and therefore 90 KILOBYTES in capacity). OS wise it went from a proprietary (and all but useless except for hardware testing) to CP/M and ultimately MSDOS (shortly after which its lack of IBMPC compatibility meant my interest waned) - but CP/M meannt that for the very first time I could buy off the shelf software and the first one I bought was Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a text based game with zero graphics.

Game consoles followed and of course led to the comment that triggered your interest and unmasked me.

The only game I play these days is hearts. I tried to get interested in the Sim life stuff a decade back, but there are roads to be ridden, sunsets to watch, friends to spend time with etc which kind of means that the time needed to be spent in front of a screen simply is not available to me, even if I was interested.

Sometimes stuff happens that triggers memory. Last year there was a Docco on the rise and fall of the non-realtime packet switched network known ad FidoNet (or Fightonet to anyone involved). I was saddened by the impact that the schism in Fido had on some people and further saddened to see that they still carry the cudgels to this very day. i have to admit that it all seemed very important at the time, but with the perspective of distance not so much these days.

The other thing that triggered a memory recently was an abortive US tv series called "Halt and Catch Fire". Pity it didn't last more than a few episodes, I suspect that whilst it had me and probably a few others of my vintage absolutely enthralled, the back story was simply too complex and too remote fro modern viewers.

I was thinking of adopting "PUSH. HCF" as a sig, but who would get it.....

I remember CPM on my first computer - H89 with single 100k 5.25" floppy!  My first game was a text based thing where you were going through a cave.  Adventure maybe?  The business computers I worked on were S100 based and ran AMOS.

Of course, all that was in a previous life...
