The '82 LS seat pan is pretty much shot, edges rotted off, holes, etc. I took it off this past weekend to see if there was enough solid stuff left to weld on and pretty much decided it was a lost cause.
But, the more I stared at it, and compared it to a regular 81-84 seat, I started noticing how similar they were. After much "pondering" I came to the conclusion that the only difference in the pans is the cutouts along the bottom rear edges to facilitate mating with the LS seat cowl. There may be enough "meat" left on the LS pan for me to make a template from and saw these cutouts into a standard '81 - '84 pan.
Of course, there could be some more subtle differences that are not readily noticeable that will cause this "operation" to fail but I think I'm gonna give it a try. I had originally put an '84 seat on the '80 R65"RS" and I finally came up with a good solid '79-'80 pan and foam so I can build the correct seat for the '80. I can then use the '84 seat as the guinea pig and if my observations are correct then my seat problem is solved. I had posted here, boxerworks, and ibmwr and have had one response at $85 for just the pan, I think that's a tad steep.
Anybody else had these two seats side-by-side and came to the same conclusion?
