Excellent price on an EXCELLENT seat (so I hear).

Do you plan to do much touring?  That is what they are made for.

The only thing about the Russel Day Long is that they were custom made for the individual rider.  Hope you're the same weight/build as the owner it was created for. It may work out ok anyway.  :-?

They're known for being very comfortable because they are a custom fit.   Let us know how it works for you.

I was thinking that the backrest would help hold on camping gear. I need a rack of some sort instead of a passenger seat. Might just turn it into a solo seat with custom rack.  a rack that goes over the luggage that doesn't interfere with them.

I did a solo seat/luggage rack conversion a couple of years ago.
I bought my seat/rack as a combo from S. Meyer, but Seibenrock sells just the racks - a couple of different ones, for the GS series.

Go to this link, and scroll down about 1/3.

Rob, that is a good looking setup. I hazard that this rack idea and single seat is out for an LS because of the handles and shape of the rear cowl? Or can some jerryrigging be brought to bear? I know...if you have the money anything can be done!!  :)
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Sue,

It involves some cutting and fabrication, mostly to the rack.  Then the rack is welded to the subframe.

You would remove the LS seat completely, if you were going to use the repro solo seat (VERY comfy!).  So the handles are not an issue.

I plan to eventually buy a new dual seat.  I bought an extra subframe from one of the folks here, but it is from a 1st gen, and I wanted a 2nd gen (minor differences).  I didn't have the heart to tell the seller - it was my fault for not asking enough questions.
Anyway, with that set-up, I could switch back & forth in just a couple of hours!

Now that I think about it, with a little more ingenuity and a few nuts & bolts, you could probably fix it so the rack is removable.

Here is an example of the good welding done for me!

The hand is good.  I haven't worried about it since I grabbed my nephew's clutch lever last summer, and found I could pull it back to the bar with no pain, and complete control in between!

I still exercise it to keep it limber.  God I can't wait for warm weather.  I bought a quart of fork oil this week! :D

Wow, Rob, that's great news about your hand.  A lot of physical therapy I'll bet.

 [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

The fork lift is an original way to work on a bike......

Anyone need a mono seat? (cheap)   [double hijack ;~) ]

Very best,
Ed

Hi JDS

LOve my Daylong.  Same as you - bought it off e-bay.  Eventually I had it rebuilt for me.

Back rest was a BAD idea.  I ended up slouching against it which hurts my back.  I don't use it now.  I just sit straight in the saddle and the back works fine on its own.

Ed - I need a mono before I get the seat!
