Hi fellow r65 riders
« on: August 12, 2009, 08:34:02 PM »
Finally I made it to this great list, just learning how to navigate the site.

I've been on the airlist for quite a while but I was getting 'bored'!

Are the t-shirts still available? I'd like to get one too.

Is anyone attending the Gypsy tour this year?

Hoping to meet other R65 owners!

Welcome to the forum, folgore.  Lots of great folks here.  Where was the photo taken?  Are you missing your right side case?

Glad to find the site.  You all seem like a great bunch.

I am hoping to put some miles on my R65.  Bought it straight out of college, got married and we rode it together all over California.  The pic was taken by my new bride.  Plan is to tour again now that the kids are off to college (we may take the R1150RT this time)...

Welcome to both of you - good pick up Ed - an SL? SM - I maybe putting my foot in it - it's been known to happen once or twice  ::) - but I'm kinda assuming that the pic was taken some time ago - what with the flares (or is it flairs - bell-bottoms anyways) and all....

Post piccies when you can - we love piccies.....

oooh... [smiley=happy.gif]  breakin' in the noob, are we? Be gentle.

Hippies on Beemers - The Early Years. Opening soon at your local cinema...  I may have to dig out an old photo from my motocross days; hair to the middle of my back. Way cool, man. The pit tootsies dig it!

Welcome folgore and Smilin' Jack. We're all friendly fire 'round these parts.

Monte, where were you on this day 40 years ago when Woodstock was going strong?  I'd like to see that photo.  If memory serves I was just finishing up my US Army basic training, had no hair on my head, and was trying to figure how to stay out of Viet Nam.

Smilin Jack, welcome to the forum.  You'll definitely be more comfortable two up on the 1150, but better yet, teach her to ride and get her own scooter.  Mrs. Phorqs & I just came off of our 3200 mile Honeymoon Ride and seeing the smile on her face as she blew past me in a rain storm is forever etched into my memory.  Your bell bottoms are cool, just don't break out the leisure suit! 8-)

Thanks all for the warm welcomes.

The tree pic was indeed circa 1980.  Favorite memory was breaking camp (we camped off the R65 to boot) in Sequoia National Park at day break, having the road to ourselves except for this big buck that did not want to yield.  We killed the engine and spent a few minutes in quite contemplation together right there on the road.  If only I had the camera at that time.

Here's the R65 today...

Welcome to the forum, I'm a new member also. I have a 1982 R65LS that I bought last summer and just got it on the road two weeks ago. But how cool to have the same BMW that you bought and obviously took care of all these years. In 1972 I had my R60/5 across the country and up and down the west coast, camping most of the time. It was a great experience for a 20 something. My most memorable moment at camping was when I put my sleeping bag down on the lawn at a Washington state rest area (you could do that back then) only to have the lawn sprinkler system turn on early in the morning [smiley=drowning.gif]. Anyway I hope you have happy experiences with your new wife, Dave 2

Hey, Dave Numero Dos... I believe Smilin'Jack is still married to the lady that took the vintage 1980 photo. Right, Jack?  We don't want to get him in trouble too soon, do we?  ;D

I'm impressed he's goth two Beemers with two kids in college! My math says that's four money pits! W'hoa... ::)

Is that a shiny new avatar there Monte?  And what's that cardboard sign around your neck say?  "Will ride 20 miles for free donuts!"

Actually, smart arse, it's my magical and ancient Germanic rune from the 3rd century. So there...

Or, it just might be a chunk of 3/4-inch plywood. With the R65's back tire sitting on it, I'm able to grunt the bike onto the centerstand.

Thanks Monte!  Yes indeed I'm still on wife #1, 29 years and counting...  I knew she was the one the minute she threw her leg over my bike and said "let's go".

Yes Dave, it was good to be 20 something and on a BMW.  They say you can never go back, but by God I'm gonna try, at least when it comes to riding and enjoying the country side and the fellowship of the biker community.  Its on my "bucket list" to circumnavigate the lower 48, likely on the R1150RT pictured below... (piccies for ausie)  Will likely have to wait until two of my "money pits" are out of college and earning their own way (counting the years / months / days).
