If you see a fellow pulling this around the speedway stop and say hi to my father in law.

 ;D

yer fil is pretty hard core for chip ganassi racing.  i might have to take a lap around the track just looking for that wagon.

my dad and brother are penske guys, and i've always been an andretti fan.  i'm originally from indiana, and we've been going to the track for quite a while.

my wife bought me a "victory lap" last year.  it was awesome going around the track at about 80mph and feeling the pull.  i can't imagine what 220 feels like.

If you ever get the opportunity to go to Mario Andretti Racing, they have several 'packages' for taking a variety of race prepared cars on oval tracks around the country.

I won an 8 lap package through my employer and Verizon, at the time it was called Driving 101, owned at the time by Bob Lutz, a high ranking executive of the Ford Motor Corp., and former BMW motorcycle executive in the '70's,  I took the course at California Motor Speedway around Ontario, CA.

I had the Indy car package, 600 hp Indy car on a 2 mile track, what an experience !!!

I highly recommend it to any 'motorhead' .

My highest speed was 201.78 mph.

'81 R65
'82 R65 LS
'84 R65 LS
'87 Moto Guzzi V65 Lario
'02 R1150R
Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

well, my route planning fell through due to unbelievably high winds in minnesota and iowa, and my brother's bike, which lost the starter.  ya can't just leave a guy who needs a push start.

but other than that, what an awesome bike!

i've knocked off over 1200 miles since monday, including two 400+ mile days.  mostly highway, maybe 60 miles of interstate.

this is the most comfortable bike i've ever owned.  plenty of room to wiggle my butt on the seat, and the ergonomics are great for a person of my (limited) stature.

the side stand is a bit lacking as i have to get off the bike prior to its implementation, but i have a couple of solutions in mind.

the trip report certainly won't be the most exciting you've ever read, and when you ride 400 some miles a day there's not a lot of time for pictures, but i'll do what i can.

thanks again,

c

Tough luck on the winds & starter, Chris.  But it clearly sounds like you've enjoyed your first trip on the scooter.  What a break-in ride.

What other bikes have you experienced?

Enviously,

i've never ridden so far, so long in 40+mph winds.  the gusts were up to 50 according to some weather sites.   :o

the stable currently consists of the r65, a 2005 f650cs, and a 2006 dr200.  there's also a 1970 yamaha cs3 that doesn't run at the moment.

previous bikes were a yamaha seca 2, honda shadow, kawasaki ex500 and a kawasaki vulcan.

the r65 has the best seat and riding position of any of them.  it's slow and the brakes provide only a vague approximation of stopping, but it's a hoot to ride.
