That's great!  I gotta send that to my Highway Patrol friends...they ride the BMWs.  We have 6 used 2004 police bikes on the floor right now that came from the NC State Highway Patrol.  They got brand new ones this year.

The SCHP Motorcycle Division also had a fleet of R1150RTs (and some R1200RTs)just like what the NCHP has, but for some reason (probably money) decided to go with the Honda ST1300 for 2009.  Boo!  Hiss!   [smiley=angry.gif]

The Danish police force have exchanged most of ther BMW-fleet with Hondas and now all the Hondas are grounded due to a minor flaw in the front brakes; they lock suddenly with out any warning.

A good bear is a grounded bear  ;D

Justin,

They were asking between 10k and 11k depending on the milage.  But I just checked the website and it looks like they've lowered the price to $8500!  WOW!  Check it out...

Click on the picture for the Capitol website...

(Sorry for the delay.  I've been quite busy lately and haven't been on the forum for quite a while... :( Missed you guys!)

A few have under 30k miles.  What do you think, have they been maintained exceptionally or just enough to get by?  I'm tempted...

They were maintained well and are in really good condition.  We did much of the maintenance at our shop.  I can probably get a history of the maintenance if you're interested...which you should be...

Come on, Justin, you know you want one...

I'd kinda like to have one, it just makes me nervous since Suraklyn has had so many oil leaks with his R1200ST and it seems I've read that a lot of these paralever bikes eat universal joints...

Do you get any commission if you sell one?  ;)

Justin,

What kind of oil leaks has Suraklyn had on the R1200 ?

I've a little over 30,000 miles on the R1150, and the only oil leak I've had was a final drive cover gasket started leaking, and it was covered under warranty.

And definitely no U-joint problems, when the bike got hit about 2 months ago, they had to remove the swing arm, to replace the damaged hydraulic clutch line, I had them check everything out while they had it apart, and the only thing they found was a slight leak at the final drive input seal ( drive-shaft area is dry), nothing that really needed to be addressed right now, but seeing as how the insurance company was footing the labor charge up to that point, I told them to go ahead and replace the seal, one hour of labor, and about $30 for the seal.

Last year some sort of seal in the transmission (or rear main) that also caused the clutch to have to be replaced.  Most of that was covered under the extended warranty but I think H had to shell out for the pressure plate.  He just had a leak fixed in his final drive or driveshaft carrier withing the past few weeks as well.  I get the feeling that most of these issues pop up in the 30k mile range...

Also, some searches at bmwsporttouring.com and the ibmwr digest seem to indicate driveshaft/u-joint issues and various oil leaks are somewhat common...

I'm still very tempted, though, a plane ticket out there isn't that much as long as I could get a ride when I got there!  Don't know if my tired old a$$ is up for a 1300 mile ride or not, but we may see.

I was afraid you'd say that!

Do these things have cop stickers all over 'em?  I'm assuming the pics on the web page are not of the actual bike as they are all the same.  Are they serviced and ready to go 1000+ miles?

That is a picture of one of the actual bikes, so you can see what stickers are left.  They all look identical, so that's why they just used the one picture.  I'll see about getting more pics today at work and find out what I can re service history, etc.  I do know they went over the bikes when we took them back in, as they had to move all the police equipment from these to their new 2009 R1200RTPs. (Which we will get back in another three years....)

Hey, I might get to meet you face to face!   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
