Motu,
Have you given any thought to double high pipes exiting on one side a la scramblers of the past?

One of the things I like about the R65 is that it's like a blank page with a simple sketch on it - there are years of projects ahead for me to play with. The twin megas are nice....next I will get rid of the big collector box and run a single muffler.I have a Supertrapp for that one.High double pipes will need new header pipes etc....a little further in the future.

Good to see another "Mono" surface.  You'll notice that we're in the minority here

Always seems to be the case with ''foreigners'' on US sites....they seem to have such a poor selection of bikes to choose from.Even my common old 1992 XT600 seemed to be a rare beast on ADVrider. As for the Honda XLV750 and Yamaha DT230....they don't even have a clue what they are.Strange that the mono R65 is in a minority....they seem to be pretty common over here.

What size tires do you have that allow such low pressures?  If I dropped down that low my bike would get pretty "squirrely".

I am using 4.00x18 front and rear.Unlike modern tyres which have a set profile, and use high pressures to maintain that profile - the K70 is designed to flex,it puts down more tread than apparent. This is a photo of my front tyre with a couple of hundred kms on it.You can see how soft the compound is by how much it is scuffed up.Also you can see the tread blocks have been touching - on full lean it is not just on that narrow row of lugs, but the tyre has flattened out and both rows of lugs, and possibly even some centre lugs are in the footprint. It feels very planted to me,but others might find it squirrely....I'm used to it.

Thanks for the pictures, Motu.  I wonder what tires the military, and others, used on the GS.

My riding was back in the sixties & early seventies.  I still have a hard time thinking about Dakar etc. off road BMWs.  Of course I took my R25 into the woods back then, but always considered it out of its element.

The one "near miss" on my R65 (so far) was on a very heavily graveled twisty road in the mountains.  I've felt less uncomfortable on snow.

The K70s look like they can get the job done on any surface.
