Windshield, Face shield coatings

At this week's Tech Session I mentioned that my helmet face shield was no longer shedding rain as well as it normally did.

Semper Gumby mentioned that he regularly uses Lemon Pledge furniture polish.  He confirmed (what I had heard) that RainX was thought to be bad for "plastics".  Another rider mentioned that he used a motorcycle detailing liquid wax spray that was safe for Lexan and Acrylic plastics.

Today I talked with a manufacturer of windshields who also mentioned Lemon Pledge as a preferred, low cost solution to coating the Acrylics and Lexans.  Said it was better on Acrylics than Lexan, but is used on both.

Anyone care to let us know what has worked for them?

Here's the good stuff. Rain-X is a Shell oil company and their product is for glass. I love this stuff during monsoon season on the cars. The product you want is from Shells aviation line of chemicals called FLIGHT JACKET PLEXICOAT or simply Plexicoat. It is meant for use on Aircraft windshields obviously 'nuff. You may have to hunt or beg for it but it is even better than Rain-X. Expect to pay considerably more for it but it will not disappoint.

I use turtle wax on the outside of the face shield. Works great. Condensation on the inside gets less with a little(!) liquid soap.
