"As you might expect, yesterday was a very long and stressful one. The surgery was successful, all three bypasses were done, and she was in recovery by 1:00pm. The doctor was hoping to have her extubated by 7:00pm, but because some levels in her blood gases had not reached the level they needed to be at, they left her breathing tube in overnight and kept her on the ventilator. However, they did get her extubated at 8:30 this morning, which was an immense relief! She is talking some in between snoozing and coughing (which the doctors said is good, to keep out any potential pneumonia). They told me that they would get her to sit up on the edge of her bed later this afternoon, and would also start giving her some clear liquids and jello later today as well. And, if everything looks OK tomorrow, she will be transferred out of ICU and back into a regular room! Yay!!! They estimate she might be discharged next Tuesday or Wednesday if things progress as they should in her recovery. So, I'm a happy camper. Sleeping on the floor in the waiting room last night was not very pleasant, but it was worth it, now that Pattimarie is going to be OK..."
So, at this point it sounds like everything is progressing as it should!
