It's been twenty-plus years since I sold my KTMs and left motorcycling for aviation. Well, I'll be back on two inline wheels this coming Saturday, 05 April 2008, when I will close, hopefully, on a sharp 1981 R65. Been attempting to buy a local undressed BMW from a Denton TX school teacher but the gentleman has owned the bike for thirty years and, for some reason, won't sell. Briefly considered stealing it but it's a bit of rolling artwork and, shoot, he'd know where to immediately find it.

Will post a photo in a couple days. Will likely have tech questions, too.

BTW, in the mid 60's, I was an undergrad student at UNT and worked on / rode some R69S models that were sold at the local BMW-Triumph-Honda dealership where I was employed. Little hole-in-the-wall shop. Heaven.

Glad to be here. Also pour loose change into my '86 VW Cabriolet. It's a sickness...

Beautiful bike, Justin. The putt I'm grabbing is all original right down to the black paint. Needs some cosmetics but no dents nor dings nor bling-bling add ons. I'm really pleased to find this R65 group.

Noted your Crowley, Texas location. I still have a painful memory of a sandy MX track in/near Crowley. Buddy decided that his Maico 400 might be a little much for him that day so offered it to me for the first moto. Neat. A free ride.

That suckers pitched me off in the "whoops", chased me down the track and stabbed me in the left buttock after it tore my brand spankin' new English MX britches. Another great day day on bikes!

Thanks for the invite, Scotty. Count me in. I'll be through Marble Falls on Saturday going after the R65. May stop Sat or Sun for pie at, well, you know... the Blue Bonnet Cafe. All no-fat, low-cal pies... NOT!

My wife and I have spent many days over many years in Kerr and Gillespie Counties and other areas. She fusses at me when I get frisky while driving the Three Sisters. The R65 will be a solo run... wink.

Will catch you on the road one of these days.

OK, I'm a newbie and all but what's with this, "My cow is my friend" thingy.

BMW bikes, quite a few years ago, used to be referred to as "Kuhs" (german word for "cow").   I think that this originated from some early experiences with riders claiming that the bikes handled "like rubber cows", referring to issues with frame flex and steering geometry.   Anyhow, the
"cow" nickname stuck, even through subsequent design improvements.   Many BMW riders still refer to their bikes as "cows" generally with affection, though not always !
