interchanging parts

I just registered last night, Hey everyone!
 Someone gave me a windjammer off his r90 or r100 circa 1970. My bike is an 84 r65. It looks relatively easy to mount but I was wondering if there were any pitfalls to look out for, or tricks to know before I tore off the indicators and current bikini before finding I needed to zig a zag or something. It'll be my first windscreen EVER and will definitely come in handy now that November is here with its cold a$$ rain. Thanks, Mike from Maryland

Welcome aboard!  

Did the 'jammer come with a mounting bracket?  If so, does it fit your R65?  You should be able to test fit it before removing stuff.

I would encourage you to try to make it a reversible modification, as they are miserable in hot weather.  Don't damage your stock stuff!  I know, it was a figure of speech.  I plan to make a wiring harness, using the same type plug that's in the Windjammer, to go to a headlight and turn signals for when I don't want the Windjammer on, but it seems like something else always comes up.

Somewhere around there I was able to find installation instructions.

The Windjammer is really nice in the cold and wet.  Did yours come with lowers?  I wish I had them sometimes.

I'm with Ed on this. Keep the bikini faring and brackets in good nick, coz my RT is fugging awful at anything bellow 40mph when the weathers hot. Making a simple loom up that you can plug in and out when you lose the winter coat is dead easy to do and makes it an easy job come summer.

Doff the Jammer and use the proceeds for a good jacket & pants or chaps for the brief cold weather season in Maryland. Do you really want to be caught on the beltway in July with a full billboard um..er..fairing strapped to the nose of a little Wee M W?

 Here in Maryland its stays cold thru February, so I planned on refitting the bikini on come The Ides of March.
 It came with a bracket that I lined up and will fit EASY but I thought it was too good to be true, so I posted wondering if there were very detailed specs or just slap it on and Go. This will get me thru the winter [unfortunatly without lowers] but will help with wind and rain till spring has sprung

I have a Luftmeister on my 1980.  It wobbles a bit above 75 but I wouldn't change it for anything.  Once you get the Windjammer on your bike you qualify for R65 "LT" status.  Of course once you start riding year round you wil want Gerbing electrics to keep you warm, Then you want the Omega Alternator to keep your battery charged up.  Then you'll want a Odessy PC680 to keep from replacing Lead acid batteries every year.  Since your styling behind that nice windscreen you want some BMW bars with 12" pull back so you can sit upright.  Then you need a new seat.  Ask me when you get there.

WHAT HAVE I DONE?!? Just kidding. Itll serve its purpose but come spring that bikini is going back on. That change-over was a pain in the A$$. The mounting bracket was all one piece, it held the instrument panel with the indicator bars and dog ears for the head lamp. I had to cut on my baby to keep the instrument part on. The lamp didnt quite fit in the bucket either so I had to rig some stuff. Im so ashamed. I am definitely going to carefully wrap, lable and box the bikini hardware.
Sorry Gumby, I gotta go with the Cafe guys as far as opinion. Im not the LT kinda guy, yet anyway.
just need to winterize and accesserize. Mike
