Hi. I'm a new BMW owner as of 3 months ago. Bought a 82 R65 w/12k, and a 83 R100RT w/70k.
Got about 350k on mostly Jap bikes. At 60 years of age, I'm finally running the bikes I dreamed about
when I was 18. Now I'm learning to maintain these bike.

Welcome aboard, Tom !

Gee, I guess you're one of those types that goes 'all in' when you decide to do
something - 2 airheads at once !   Well, that's fine - I'd have more than one
right now also if I had a bit more space, or was a bit more clever at sneaking
another past my wife...haha !

Anyhow, if you haven't already done so, pop over to our Frappr Map webpage
and put a pin in the map where you live - it is always interesting to see how spread
out a group we are, and were there seem to be "clusters" of airhead owners !

Hi Tom,
I have 81 R65 & 91 R100. They compliment each other nicely. Both aquired this year as well.

Thom, welcome to the forum ! You'll find these bikes quite user friendly when it comes to maintenance, get well acquainted with the on-line parts catalogs, as most BMW dealers don't want to be bothered with the old airhead bikes. Don't be hesitant about posting here, we have a lot of experience with these bikes, and if we don't know, we can direct you to a source that most likely can solve your problem. I'm somewhat familar with your area, helped my brother when he was racing SCCA Formula Ford cars at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in Rockton, Il. back in the late '70's and early '80's. I'm originally from the Chicago metro area.

Hiya Thom, welcome to the asylum. If an idiot like me can run and repair an airhead then anyone can :) The R65 is a lovely bike to own and if you show it a little TLC then its really unlikely to let you down.
