Welcome Gibo, nice to see another Azure Blue / Turquoise R65, I've only seen another like mine about 20 years ago, but come to think of it that's the only other R65 I've ever seen on the road.

I like that color, too.  Mike's is that color; he actually made it down for BT yesterday in Salem, OR.  I tried out his highway pegs, they're pretty comfortable.

The black side-covers set it off nicely.  I don't think I've ever seen gold trim on blue before, though...

thanks for the warm welcome. The bike has 22K on the clock - my guess is it's been rebuilt. The colour scheme is a bit mix and match, side covers did match the tank,  but went west on a ride, got some after market painted them black with gold badging. Currently got the seat off getting some new padding - need to make it comfy for the wife. As for the weather midle of winter over here, plenty rain, plenty snow - good for postcards  - cheers gibo

Well, Bob!  Not all passengers are dead weight or cause handling problems.    Humph.   That's how I started out riding and I've been a great passenger from the moment I first got on a bike.    Maybe good passengers end up being good riders.        You do have a point though.  I wouldn't want to carry a passenger.  Maybe in a few more years of riding.

gibo - sounds like you're going to get your winter work out of the way so you can start out your riding season ready to go.  What kind of padding are you getting to put in your seat?  It definitely makes a difference for the passenger to have comfort on a longer ride.  I loved going 2-up until I started riding my own bike.

 Melena,  interested in your comments re the seat,  I've got a bloke over here does gell inserts instead of foam, on all accounts feed back has been good. He does the gell insert based on the rider weight (hope he's got plenty of gell (lol). Then re covers the seat. I'll post a photo when I ge it back. Your right I'm getting ready for the summer - the wike and I intend riding the "Great Ocean Road" South Coast Victoria. Its worth a look on the net. I'd send a link but am still working this stuff out - cheers gibo

Hey Gibo, welcome! I too love those turquoise '81s with the twin discs up front, and think they're about the best looking stock R65 setup out there. Nice!

I'll be really interested in following your gel-insert seat exploits, so please keep us updated, okay? I put a new Sargent on my '84 this season because the stock seat was shredded, and it looks great but rides about like a brick wrapped in black vinyl!
I kept hoping it would soften up a bit, but 2000+ miles later it still has me squirmin' & cussin' after  a coupla hours in the saddle.
It's either going in for "surgery" this winter or getting put on Ebay for someone with more "natural padding" than my skinny butt provides!.

Anyway, good luck, and keep us posted on your progress. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

G'Day to ya mate! (OK, I know it sounds corny coming from a Yank, but I still smile whenever I'm addressed that way by an Aussie!)

Thought I'd throw in a welcome of my own to you, Gibo.  I absolutely love hearing about the exploits of our R65 brethren from Down Under.  It's one of my "dreams" to ride all the way around Australia, and one day, God willing, I intend to give it a go!  Three things I would have to see and do while in your lovely country are:

1) Snorkle off the Great Barrier Reef (One of my hobbies is saltwater aquariums)
2) See Ayer's Rock in person at sunset.
3) Walk across the top of the bridge in Sydney Harbour.
4) Buy a "shout" for some motorcycle friends at a pub and see how long I can "hang".
(OK, so that was four things!)

Good lookin' bike you have there as well.  Hope you and your wife enjoy many wonderful miles together on it!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

The gel should work great.  The PO of my bike had gel put in the seat and I've never had the problems that some people seem to have.   It's a very comfortable seat.  Unfortunately it looks like the underlying foam is getting hard and crumbly, so I'll probably have to get in there and fix it up a bit.  I will be very interested in hearing about how this works out for you.

I'll love to hear your stories of the trips you and your wife take.

It's maybe a little flatter than stock, pleated, no strap, fits up just like stock.
