Hi all, John asked me to post some photos of "El Burroquito" my trusty R65 monoshock which is carrying me around the world at the moment. So, here they are, some snaps from various exotic locales. There are more on my website www.hotkey.net.au/~howmans .
Here's one from 5000 metres altitude in Northern India.
Cheers,
Sean

Riding on snow in Tajikistan. You can see the road switching back down the hill.

180 km outside Timbuctoo, just before a crash which ripped my left rocker cover off the engine and filled the valves full of sand.

The R65 fitted with knobblies to tackle 1000 km of dirt in south eastern Cameroon.

Great pictures, and I'm sure the adventure of a life time. I've got one question, and just an aproximate figure what would the cost be, of such an undertaking as your are on?

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Wow.  Did you use knobbies for the snow as well?  That's when I park my bike and take the car, after putting 4 studded tires on the car.

Like Rob told me, I don't need a GS I just need to go.

Wow !

I applaud your adventurous spirit !!!    I bet the folks on some of the "other" BMW websites would be impressed
with what you've accomplished while astride a "buzzy" lowly R65 street bike !!!     The photos are great -
you WILL have to write a book about your adventure - certainly makes those hollywood pansies who rode around
eastern Europe on new 1150GS bikes and an entire multi truck support crew look like, well, pansies !

Good luck and please keep us updated !!!!

Thanks guys. In answer to a couple of your questions, i was spending roughly $1000 US dollars a month in Asia and Africa (not including flights and shipping). That required staying in cheap hotels and camping a bit. Fuel is a major cost, so travelling slower brings the daily budget down.
I didn't have knobblies unfortunately for the snow, i came across it a bit unexpectedly. I had to tie ropes around the street tires for traction. After fitting the knobblies in Cameroon, i can recommend it, the bike handled a lot better in the dirt and the higher profile tires also gave me some extra clearance.

Cool.  Rope around the tires!  What a great idea.  Cool pics.
