After 35 years

Hello Everyone!

Did a search on the net and ended up here. I am a 56 year young (not old) man and after a 35 year layoff I once again have a BMW R series. My original beemer was a 70 (or 71) R60 as memory recalls. It was a beautiful bike and I wish I would never had sold it. ah well.

Anyway, I now have a 1982 R65 with a little over 40k on the clock. It has a couple of issues I'd like to ask for help and/or opinions on.

1. - the left cylinder has a couple of bent fins - I've been told to leave them alone because they will break if an attempt is made to bend them back.

2. Bags - Any easy way to realign the two halves of bags so they'll close easily? - I've got one that's impossible to close.

Also - Any good parts sources out there?

And finally...

What started me back on the saddle of a motorcycle was a 1999 Fatboy which I enjoy immensely as well - so let the razzing begin

-Ralph...

Welcome!
As for your questions.
1. Leave the fins alone they most likely will break if an attempt is made at straightening.
2. I'd need to know what type of bags before I could offer any advice there.
3. For used parts my favorite source is http://www.re-psycle.com/

Welcome bck to the BMW world Ralph.
I'd leave the fins alone as they will break.
BMW have spares avaliable for the OE Bags (locks hinges etc)
Ride safe
