Newbie here. Hello
« on: May 30, 2007, 07:32:43 PM »
Howdy folks. My first post on the forum. I never even knew an R65 forum existed! Excellent.

Anyway, Im Bonzo, a handsome git from the Isle of Man  ;)

Ill be picking up my new bike on Sat 16th June after the madness that is the TT has left us. The bike is a 1987 Mono R65 with a factory fitted RS fairing, see pics.

I was looking for an R1000RS actually but this one caught my eye. I owned an '81 twin shock R65 a few years ago and I have to say it was a lovely sweet nippy little bike, and for the mileage I do over here, it was ideal. So, Ill write a report after Ive picked it up to share my views.

Thisll be my 14th bike. Amongst them 2 x 1987 K100RS's, an '87 K100RS & Sidecar, an excellent R1150GS, and the '81 R65. Yep. I have a love of the BM marque. Theres just something 'different' about them.

All the best

Bonz

Welcome Bonzo!  That is a very pretty bike and how lucky you are to live in TT land!!  So what have the 100 anniversary celebrations been like??? Knowing the roads as you must..can you imagine going the speeds that the racers do?
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Yes, welcome aboard, Bonzo! I agree with the others, sweet looking bike! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Hope to hear some stuff about the TT from your point of view.  That's been a "fantasy vacation" of mine for a very long time now.  Maybe some day....

Thanks for the big welcome guys & gals.

Well, the TT is just starting to get into fulll swing about now. Still practice week but already John McGuinness has smashed the all time lap record. I think by the weekend the place will be full to the brink. Ive heard on Manx Radio that there are 92,000 visitors coming here over the two weeks. Bugger me thats a lot.

Think of me. I work for DHL and trying to deliver / collect over this period is a nightmare! Good job bikers are the friendliest people in the world.

Its actually not a good time to be out on a bike during this fortnight. Its manic and at times it can get gnarly. The best plan is just to leave the bike at home, chill and soak up the atmosphere. Lets hope the weather hangs in there.

I'm just over the water in Cumbria and the number of bikes making a tour of the lakes before they head to the Ferry in Dumfries is mad. From the speed that people (not wanting to point fingers but its mostly crazy Germans on superbikes) have been flying past my house to day I'm really glad I'm not in your boots next week. Enjoy the TT, and I'll have to make do with Boarder tellys coverage this year.
Cheers Tony.
