Hello from Texas

Hello people, just joined the forum. To make a long story longer, here is the story:

My Dad has owned various BMW's since I was a kid and we would go to Euray Colorado every fall to a BMW Rally. When I was old enough to have a license, my first road Bike was a 1978 R60/7. That bike unfortunately lost a fight with a car sometime in early 1990, and had not owned one since, until up to a year ago.

A guy that I worked with had been trying to sell me a 1982 R65 for some time, but was unable to buy it because I just did not have the space for it. A couple of years later, he decided to move to Washington state in a hurry, and needed to sell alot of stuff fast. He told me to come get it and i said that I wanted to at least give him something for it, so he said a hundred bucks. I could have gotten it for free if I had kept my mouth shut. He had bought a Harley some years earlier, so the bike had sat in the garage for at least 5 years. It'll crank and run, but I have not run it for very long as I have no clue what condition the internals are in. My goal is, in the next several months, to tear it down and then build it back up.

Overall, it's garage dirty, but not beyond cleaning up into a nice bike....just waiting on the Clymer manual.

Sounds like a good buy and good luck with your cleanup.  Where in TX are you at?

We seem to be getting quite a little swarm in that area!  What is the known count for the D/FW neighborhood, just off the top of your head, Justin?

Congratulations on your good fortune, Mr. Hundred Dollars, sir!   [smiley=camera_sm.jpg]

Welcome to the group..............you got a sweet deal....and a great bike. Of all the BMW’s the R65 is my favorite. Mine looked like chit after sitting under a tarp for about 18 years................... looks better now. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Scotty in Marble Falls, Texas.

Thanks for the greets folks. Well, I lived in Richardson until the second grade (went to Jess Harbon Elementary) and then moved back about 4 years ago. I like it here because it is close to the center of everything in Dallas.....just about 5 minutes in any direction and I can get to where ever I want...except for jail : it's only about a mile away.

Wow!!  :o   I'd have to say that would have to be the best $100 one could EVER spend on a bike!!!!  You got one helluva deal there, my friend!!   ;)

Welcome to our little insane asylum of R65 freaks and geeks!  (I won't say who is who, though!)   ::)

G'day mate, welcome from the Lone Star state.

I was there once, but in Amarillo for a few days. We only skipped through as we had come from oklahoma, and made our way up to Greely? Colorado

We had a show down in the abbatoir with Texas A&M and Texas Tech lads/lasses.

Good times. I like it down there.

When you get it on the road you need to swing by the Dubliner on Greenville some sunday afternoon and have a pint with all the other Euro-bike hooligans.
