New to this group as well

Been whipping my 1982 R65 into shape since I bought it last fall. Low mileage but lots of little issues. Flushed the front brake, added fork boots, cleaned the headlight lens and replaced bulb with Sylvania H4, spline lube, swing-arm lube, rebuilt carbs (now my boots don't smell of gas), new Odyssey battery, new throttle cables and upgrade of throttle gear assy. Seems like a lot but it just runs better and better.
Started out with a Yamaguchi 50cc when I was 15 in 1964 - been riding ever since. This is my first BMW and it really suits my riding style.

It sounds like you have been lurking on airhead forums for a while!  Either that, or you just know what machines like!

Welcome to the fold.  Prepare to be addicted  [smiley=evil.gif]

Welcome, scout, glad you found us and have a "virtual brew" on the house!  [smiley=beerchug.gif]  Sounds like you have done your research and are starting out establishing a good maintenance baseline to gauge future service against.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] These Airheads will run well over 100k miles with routine maintenance, a valve job, and possibly a tranny rebuild.  Then you're ready for the second 100k!  8-)

Yeah, a hearty "Welcome" to you as well, Scout!  If you ever need any help, you'll find a boatload available on this forum!  We have some ong-timers who are regulars on this forum (like Rob) who know an R65 "inside and out" who will be glad to offer any help or answer any question you might have.

We look forward to reading about your developing love affair with your first Beemer!  ;)

Welcome aboard!

Uh, what's the throttle gear upgrade?  I'm not familiar with that one.

If you have to replace the gear that has the chain attached to it, the cover must be replaced as well, as best as I can remember the inside diameter of the gear is larger than the stock part, and the new cover design makes up for the different diameter. Don't even try to make it work, just ask Sue about her experience with this!
