Hi,again
« on: January 07, 2007, 05:57:43 PM »
I just rejoined after finding out the old site was gone. I usually do around 3,000 miles a year, and this year...maybe 300 miles. Oh well, this year gota be better. My cat Ignatz is about 20 years old and doing fine, and the R-65 is well preserved in the garage. I hope everyone has a great 2007!..Rob

Welcome back, ignatz!

Glad to hear your cat is well  :)

Sorry to hear the bike didn't get out more last year.  Any particular reason?
I know my miles would have been low had I not gotten out on the road twice last year.

Well, my first excuse would be I overturned my ankle trailrunning. Sounds like a minor deal but I was black +blue from my toes to my calf. Nasty black! So swollen it took weeks to see my ankle bone. I actually bruised the bones from turning it so far. Any way, I spent most of the summer working out in the gym and after 1 year and three months I'm doing better. My last knee surgery was a walk in the park compared to this ankle injury. I also started shooting a revolver in speed combat matches. Something different! I was fencing up until my ankle injury. That sport is so demanding,it will be a while before I do that again. Good to hear from you and everyone on the board!

At least you are keeping busy! ;)

I would probably be like Barney Fife in speed revolver shooting, dropping cartridges all over the place!
"You mean I get to put SIX rounds in, Andy?  Wow, this is BIG!"

Sorry to hear about your ankle.  Your friends will call you "the weatherman" from now on... :'(

Hi Ignatz!  Glad you found us.

I'm so sorry to hear about your ankle but glad to hear it is finally healing.  Those kinds of injuries are notorious for taking a long time to heal.  I hope it will be okay for the 2007 riding season.

Howdy, Ignatz!   Good to have you back once again! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I wondered where your user name "Ignatz" came from, and now I know!   ;)

We all look forward to you getting out more on your bike in 2007, and reading your posts!

OK where does Ignatz come from?  I'm missing something.

I like trail running and fencing too.  How far were you running?  My only injury was a torn muscle in the back of my knee, I did it in an 50K ultramarathon with lots of steep muddy hills.  A good massage therapist is a Godsend.

Get better!

Hi Ed, I use to do 50k's cause the knuckleheads I run with do 100 milers! I backed off after my knee surgury and started doing 5k's instead. Still I was training on trails, in the rain, flying down a hill, when I overturned my ankle. Fencing definetly had my left accilies sore from pushing off repeatedly. Now its Yoga 5 times a week! I think the yoga and pilates classes I take will help me if I choose to get back into fencing. Fencing is one of the most demanding sports I've ever tried.

Wow, that is deep, ignatz.  I will study that some more.  It is obvious you are not just a gearhead, but running in the woods in the rain?  I am afraid I have not reached that spiritual plateau, yet.  Heck, I just discovered the I Ching at 50!

I am also going to check out the Pilates more closely, as my left shoulder is still painful to lay on since my crash last May.  And even worse, it seems the right shoulder has gone into sympathy with it! :(
You seem to be a rather dedicated athlete, so I ask you, what kind of mattress do you sleep on?  Conventional?

Just wanted top chime in here with all the old comrades and say hi to Ignatz! I think he was referring to his cat's name Ed.

Boy  all this exercising seems pretty painful. Are you guys sure that in the long run this stuff is good for us???
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

I'm not always willing to devote the required time to training for marathons+, so I only do them every other year or two.  Who can make the time to do 100 milers?  It also interferes with my riding, as I haven't figured out a way to leave a thousand dollars of leather and helmet on my bike while I'm gone running for two hours, and expect to have it still there intact when I get back.  I like knowing I can run 31 miles.  There's one here in Oregon in September that I ran in 2005 and loved it:

http://mrtr.org/

That's not the one where I injured myself.

It's a good excuse to do the Crater Lake marathon a month before that, too, for a training run.  :-)

If you like fencing you might enjoy other martial arts like karate or taekwon do:  also very intense workouts, but so facinating that you can't stop.  Well, besides the fact that you would get beat up.  Just kidding!  They are probably better for you as they utilize your body in more versatile ways, not just legs and right arm.  Assuming the yoga gets you back strong and limber, of course.  I should learn more yoga; I just use it as a warm up for doing my forms.

I don't know if it's good for us in the long run if you just refer to life span, but fitness certainly makes life more enjoyable.  I can do more stuff.

My cat only lived to be 18.  I miss him.

You guys talk about running 100 miles.  :o

I have to get into my mindset before I ride 100 miles!

Sometimes I will park way out in the parking lot at the grocery store. ;)
