introducing myself as a new member

Hello everyone,
I followed a link from the German "Forum fuer die kleinen Boxer" (= R 45/65/65LS) to Your forum, and it seems to be a lot of traffic here between enthusiasts of the "bonsai BMW". I followed it for several weeks, and I'm really enjoying it. Nice and gentle people all over, it seems.
Well, mine is a type 248 from the last production year 1985, and in these days the 100 000 kilometres mark will be reached. During the X-mas eve days now, my two grown daughters (25 + 23 yr, with/without partner)  are staying here in their old parent's home, and the first thing they are claiming for is a ride on daddy's ole "gummikuh". So we did this afternoon, and, although feeling the danger of slippery road at an actual temperature of zero centigrades, we had two or three times a bit of shimmy behavior at abrupt acceleration manoevers. (Tire pressure was checked as properly before.)
Being a teacher at a "Berufsschule" (more or less a "professional's college), I am servicing my R 65 all by myself, using the tool stock of my own car garage. My specialities are engine overhauls and the electrical system. Honestly, my bike, although having nearly a 100 000 of km's, never suffered of broken engine parts, and the cylinders, having full compression ratio, are looking brand new from inside. Her 50 hp are "very vivid" in the estimation of other bikers who tried a ride. Things I have changed (besides tires, cables, bulbs, brake pads and spark plugs) were carburettor valve needles, gaskets and hoses. The seat was refurbished last year, and the paintable parts received a new painting in RAL 9005 ("deep standard black"), together with white lines.
Well, finishing now - curious to read the last postings of this forum. Glad to be here at last

Welcome Westfalian Alien!

It's really a treat for us to have all of you from the "Forum fuer die kleinen Boxer" (= R 45/65/65LS) come and join our forum.

This is a really great group of people and I'm sure we will all learn something more from this.

Again, welcome!   [smiley=beer.gif]

Welcome, alien, it's a pleasure to have as much German participation on our forum as we have recently had.  8-)  Y'all expose us to insights and some history we might never have had the opportunity of discovering.  Enjoy your visits and "hang out" any time you like.  [smiley=beer.gif]
