Isle of Man TT
« on: June 02, 2016, 06:47:03 PM »
Well its that time of year again folks when the chaps with ice water in their veins get on their bikes come out to play on the world famous Isle of Man Mountain Course.

Live updates and TT radio is available at  http://www.iomtt.com/

So far Michael Dunlop has been the quickest in practice at 132.4mph, with Hutchy and John McG hot on his heels with high 131mph laps  the 27 3/4 mile circuit.

Thanks for the update Tony. Getting there to get a glimpse of the racers is at the top of my bucket list.
Keep your bike in good repair: motorcycle boots are not comfortable for walking.

That should have been 37 3/4 miles... Typo fingers last night. I guess the TT is one of those things that most motorcycle enthusiasts have on their bucket list Marc.  Being in the English North West its not a massive trip for me but every time I go I've met people (usually over a glass or three of foaming ambrosia) who've come from all over the globe who have been dreaming of going to the Island for years.

One of several motorcycle rags I subscribe to is Motorcycle Classics. They have an offering for a group tour package to the TT including hotels and assorted activities. I'm sure it sold out early. One of these days...

Son in law offered me a free flight which he had been gifted by a supplier, he knows I want to go but I will be taking Gertie with me when I do.

Generally 2 years in advance unless you have won the lottery.

Tony Shaw alerted me via Facebook that the Velocity Channel will broadcast the TT beginning Saturday, 04 June through Saturday, 11 June, totaling eight hours of race broadcasts. I've already DVR'd the eight-part series.

Gear up and enjoy [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

The deadly history of the IoM TT races continues.

Day One added two deaths to the litany: Sidecar pilot killed in his race and a practice run cost the life of a 50-year old TT veteran motorcyclist.

I am still amazed at the speeds, the proximity to stone walls, buildings and spectators. The lure and power of the TT is enormous.

I am still amazed at the speeds,

I watch on board videos and can't understand how they react so quickly. I would literally be 2 corners behind the bike in my reaction times.

The skill and courage of these riders is beyond compare. One mistake and you're dead...........................

To get some idea of the skill, here's the on bike footage of Michael Dunlops record breaking lap on the BMW S1000RR in the opening Superbike race last Saturday.

Except - he can. I wish I had a small fraction of his skill and reaction time.   Oh! and a large helping of his courage would be nice too.
