A few times a month, I see an ' older ' rider, in his late 60's to early 70's, with a  '70's R60 with a sidecar, doing his weekly grocery shopping .

I can see the usefulness of a sidecar these days, I'm only 10 years from being late 60's myself !!! ;D

I drove a sidecar rig for 12 years, and gave it up because the bike (R25/2) was too underpowered to haul a Steib LS 200 - and I was mdd an offer I could not refuse.
Great fun tho'

I met up with Scotty some time back at Perry's in Fort Worth where he cut a deal to trade in his beautiful R65 rig for an R90 rig. At least I think it was a n R90 and it was not yet a rig. The bike was a strange gold-orange color. Butt ugly but a solid scooter. The side car, and I forget the model, was a dust covered, unrestored bit sitting in a warehouse full of other dust covered bikes and sidecars.

I helped him unload his R65 rig and that was the last time he touched it. There was a broken attach strut on the hack that had, according to Scotty, been problematic for some time.

Anyway, the repaint of the bike back to black, some cosmetics, the overhaul and repaint of the car, mating the two and all the tweaking that goes with mating a car to bike took almost one year. But it turned out to be a beauty.

Scotty lives in Marble Falls, Texas, which is on the northern edge of the Texas Hill Country. He rides around, gives kids rides, rolls in local parades and lives the good life. Last time I saw Scotty and his new outfit was at the Luckenbach Harvest Classic where he had his rig in the showline.

I have to say that I have also given a sidecar some thought but just don't feel ready yet to give up the sensuous leaning into corners. Not that I do steep leans but there is something to the sine curves involved that I just like and what probably keeps me riding.
I would have to say that the one growing bugaboo to riding today is the gear I seem to feel obligated to wear for protection. A sidecar rig could be a blast!
What sidecar is OK for our R65...I have been advised not to think so light in weight that I am forever carrying ballast.
