... Is Scotty in Texas no longer active among us? He had a positively gorgeous R65 sidecar rig.
I met up with Scotty some time back at Perry's in Fort Worth where he cut a deal to trade in his beautiful R65 rig for an R90 rig. At least I think it was a n R90 and it was not yet a rig. The bike was a strange gold-orange color. Butt ugly but a solid scooter. The side car, and I forget the model, was a dust covered, unrestored bit sitting in a warehouse full of other dust covered bikes and sidecars.
I helped him unload his R65 rig and that was the last time he touched it. There was a broken attach strut on the hack that had, according to Scotty, been problematic for some time.
Anyway, the repaint of the bike back to black, some cosmetics, the overhaul and repaint of the car, mating the two and all the tweaking that goes with mating a car to bike took almost one year. But it turned out to be a beauty.
Scotty lives in Marble Falls, Texas, which is on the northern edge of the Texas Hill Country. He rides around, gives kids rides, rolls in local parades and lives the good life. Last time I saw Scotty and his new outfit was at the Luckenbach Harvest Classic where he had his rig in the showline.
