Crashed on the R65

Yesterday morning I took a fall on the R65. Tore the quarter fairing off the bike. My forks are still good and the crash bars did their job. The engine is unscathed. But my indicators got ripped off. The right side controls shattered, the tank got dented and the headlight mount is shot. Nothing major, just cosmetic damages. The bike still managed to get me home. I just came back from a check up and thankfully, all of my organs are still in the right places. No fractures, but I did sustain a lot of road rash and bruises.

Sorry to hear of your crash, especially after all the good work you have done recently on your bike.

Get yourself healed up first.  

And then lets get the old girl back running again.

Get some pictures up and all.....Of the bike, not sure I want to see the gravel rash.  Hopefully you were not riding in flip-flops and shorts.

I crashed two blocks away from home. On my way back from breakfast within the village. A scooter wasn't using his brakes at an intersection. The bike actually flipped itself over. I imagined crashing on some far away trip on some twisties. But no. At least I was wearing proper gear minus the jacket. The front end bits are gone. Time for some retro mod inspired work there. Besides the steering stop getting sheared off, the bike is is pretty good condition. I'm pretty much bummed with the damage on the bike rather than the injuries I sustained.

Sounds like something unpredictable happened and you had the bad luck to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Hope you get it all back together again soon.

Back in the early 70's I had my first accident within half a mile from home and my 2nd (I hope the last) half a mile from work.

Statistically it's the norm. They say 1 in 3 accidents occur within 1 mile from home and only 1% over 50 miles away.

The "experts" here in Texas state that most accidents occur within 25 miles from home. Y'all do keep in mind that there's miles n' miles of Texas. That's part of a line from a song by Asleep At The Wheel.

Anyway, just to be on the safe side, Pretty Wife and I moved to another home 25 miles away. I feel a lot safer now when I'm out on the bikes.

That's the one piece of gear I never leave without: a jacket.  Well, that and pants.

Sorry to hear about the fall.  Hope you are fully recovered soon.  It's almost always the local stuff that gets you, and usually because some does something stupid you don't expect.

Have you ever been hit with a Texas size June bug at speed?  Damn near put a hole in ya...

I got hit in the face by a dragonfly at 120km/h. It hurts every time I remember that happened, and that was the last time I wore an open faced helmet.

Really great news through. Besides the injuries slowly getting better, I managed to tear down the front end with literally one arm and thoroughly assess the damage. The forks are surprisingly straight. The welding shop assured me the damage on the headlight mount is easily repairable as well as the sheared off steering stop.The Fairing and the rear left indicator housing is the only thing that was beyond repair.

And since I have no more mode of transportation to school, My grandfather's old reliable Beetle stored at the back should be a good replacement for the R65 in the meanwhile.
