It did it!!!!!

Hello all

After quizzing a few of you on here about the bike & it's capabilities, i decided on my next ride i would put your words to action & not be too afraid about the bike revving higher than i thought it should.

Today was that day!!
First i went on the roads flowing with traffic, got it warm etc.
then decide to push it & well OH MY..........what a bike!!

I never knew it had it in it, 3rd gear 50mph, didn't think it was too bad popped it in to 4th, and it just carried on pulling!

I am well impressed with this bike!

oh, and for a split second i got it to 100mph!!

Didn't even notice i'd taken it off!
thought it felt lighter, must have helped with the aerodynamics too!

Bike was a different kettle of fish today,
went out on it & got caught in the rain (and i got a right facefull as i haven't decided on a front mudguard yet), when i accelerated at certain revs the bike would stutter till i bakced off, then back fire but run ok at low revs.
It wouldn't tick over either, had to keep the throttle on slightly at junctions/ lights.

I'm thinking it may be the HT leads in the wet OR maybe little bit of water in the enigine???

any suggestions?
thanks

The coils are a common problem - at least the original gray coils they came with. The epoxy cracks, then they short out in the damp.

An easy way to check what's up is to rev it up in the dark and watch for the arcing.

Maybe a good front mudguard has attained greater status on the priority list? :D

Without a mudguard/fender the spray from the front wheel will be directed straight at the coil/front coil (depending on year) under the tank.  So your HT circuit is probably very wet - not to mention the rest of the electrics under the fuel tank.

I was under the impression that mudguard/fenders are required for MOT in the UK?  I certainly would not be riding without one in our climate.

I do like the rear mudguard idea - I have a mind to something similar myself next year.  How do you fix it to the swing arm?  I plan to re-use the rear mudguard that I have - it will be 6 inches shorter than yours but will be unencumbered with the weight as I will not mount the lights or number plate on it.   I also like the shortened and kicked up rear sub-frame.....I might re-instate mine and use it as a sturdy point to mount my rear light and number plate, if I do not mount them on the underside of the saddle - after I have glassed in some mounting points......

Just a thought, I am using a couple of shortened wheel spokes for the choke actuation on my bike, with the threaded bit uppermost and the nut that goes inside the rim screwed on the threaded portion of the spoke as something to grab a hold of.  It is simpler, although you have to set both chokes independently.   You could lose the old lever/wires that way.  I will get a picture soon.

Cheers
