Motorcycling makes you smarter

We always knew it now here's the proof.  The concentration involved in riding regularly improves your brain function.

Early Thursday morning before dawn, a motorcycling Darwin Award nominee took himself out when he attempted to enter busy IH-35 in Dallas.

After clipping an on-ramp curb and becoming airborne, he and his UJM sport bike sideswiped an SUV -which did not stop- then ricocheted on to do a run-under with a Class A tractor-trailer rig.

I was on a treadmill at the gym when this TV news feature popped up. Image of the bike was grizzly. Rider's buddy was really distraught. Well, d'uh. I hate riding the SuperSlabs around DFW-Austin-Houston, etc. Avoid them whenever possible.

I remember on the news about the guy who got killed on a 150cc scooter when he hit a roadside portable toilet at 80 km/h.

whenever I see one of them "feeling rossi" scooter boys that weave traffic like cockroaches I always remember that phrase; "the dumb ones gets killed off"

After clipping an on-ramp curb

Another case of "loose nut holding the handlebars". :D

Same here - when I see yoyos like that I back off and give them loads of room. Wheelies on the freeway, weaving in and out... it's just asking for trouble.

Any idea what caused him to clip the curb?

Perhaps his buddy will ride a bit wiser after this. ???

"Scientists believe that the extra concentration needed to successfully operate a motorcycle can contribute to higher general levels of brain function, and it’s that increase in activity that’s surely a contributing factor to the appeal of the motorcycles as transportation. It’s the way a ride on a bike turns the simplest journey into a challenge to the senses that sets the motorcyclist apart from the everyday commuter. While the typical car-owning motorist is just transporting him or her self from point A to point B, the motorcyclist is actually transported into an entirely different state of consciousness."

OK it must be a state of unconsciousness for some. The other night I got overtaken by a lad on  50cc scooter. I saw him coming in the mirrors. He wasn't stopping for anything and didn't seem to mind overtaking cars that were about to turn across him. They live on there wits at that age.

Maybe it's only us mostly older guys that motorcycling makes smarter. Not forgetting the younger guys you'll need to be smart too if your going to grow old riding a motorcycle.
