yea that works, but you kinda have to have a back and forth motion to it or else the metal will look weird, like 2 different shades of silver and once you start in one spot, you have to do everywhere to make things look even. also to some people, it scratches the metal, so you might want to test your pad of choice on an inconspicous area like underneath the oil pan to see if you like the results. personally i get the huge brown scotch brite pads and cut them to size so the pad can fit in small spaces or do large areas like the engine casing.
