Speeding Tickets & Insurance

It seems I only get a speeding ticket at the most inconvenient of times.
In this case, right before I renew my motorcycle insurance, and am wanting to shop around for a better deal.  Which I can't, because I have a ticket only two months old.

Be careful out there and mind your speed.

Around here, one has to be especially watchful for speedtraps the last week or so of each month.   The state police (and local police) often have mandates to achieve certain "quotas" of citations, and with the town and state governments desperate for more cash, they are pressing the patrols to generate as much revenue as possible.

One ride I frequently drive will often have no more than 1 patrol car for 55 miles of highway, but last week (the end of the month), one night I counted 12 patrol cars - and they had each stopped a vehicle over that same stretch of highway.

Texas has a system allowing a driver to take a defensive driving course once every three years.  There is an insurance discount for the course certificate.  If a speeding ticket is received, then sign up and take the course and receive "deferred adjudication".  That means while you have to pay the fine, if you don't get another ticket within 90 days then the ticket will not show up on your driving record.  The cities get their money, I get cheaper insurance, the cops get to meet their quota, and everyone is happy.  Of course I'm still out the money for the ticket but at least it's only a 90 day issue.  So civilized.
