The new Boxer

That's new, as in '07 R1200R with 5K miles on the clock.  I've had about 500 miles to get used to it, and it's as addictive as heroin.
It weighs just 40 pounds (18.2Kg) more than the LS and has more than double the horsepower.  In it's defense, I have to say the LS was quite happy on twisty (and ofter rough) Vermont roads.  But where the LS merrily sang down the road, the R absolutely storms.  And it does it virtually silenty, except for a turbine-like whine and an occasional burble from the exhaust on a downshifting backoff.

I miss the compartments under the seat.  I don't miss turning the gas on and off.  I miss my Napoleon bar-enders.  I don't miss the choke lever.

By the way, the LS is for sale.  Message me if you're interested.

You won't regret getting the oilhead, just a different way of doing things on two wheels .

I've often made the comparison between the airhead R65's I've got and the R1150R, the airheads being a WWI biplane (Fokker Dr.1 Triplane), the oilhead is an F-15 .

Two different worlds to say the least bit .

Of all the new BMW bikes, the R1200R is the one that would do it for me..  but, I think that you may yet regret selling the little R65.   I've always regretted selling my last airhead - which is why I bought my R65LS years ago.   I've gotta keep an airhead in the garage from now on - maybe I'll even end up with another.   They aren't modern, but they are sweet, in their own right.

Steve,

I'm excited for you.  I like the naked R's a lot. If I was to buy a new bike (probably never happen) it would be a tough decision between the R & RT. Let us know how the new relationship develops.

Most of all - have fun and be safe out there.

What Bob Says!  I've had two R65's and regret selling the first one.  The second went to my son Earl Phorqs and that makes me smile, but I still want another one of these days.  (Hmmmm, wonder if Texas Burt still has his?)  Mrs. Phorqs loves her R1100R and doesn't even want to consider riding one of the other bikes in the garage.  New bikes are great but Airheads Rule!

I can't say I regret selling my r65 frank'n'beemer, but I do miss it. I think that speaks well of the model, considering how many issues my r65 had.

Sure is !  A great pix's spot, plus a neat stop on the way home from the coast. Lot's more than the "Sprue Goose" now.

Here's a link to the museum, if anybody gets in the area, about 40 miles west/southwest of Portland, Oregon .
