One of our members here, lives in the San Francisco area, and earlier this year, they pulling over every motorcyclist, having them remove their helmet, and take pictures of them, and their bikes, so when they went through a photo radar camera and 'tripped' it, they could be identified, and prosecuted .

Really ?!?

I wouldn't stand for that intrusion of privacy and violation of personal rights !   Don't they have a bunch of lawyers in Kalifornia ?   I could imagine this happening in other countries, but not our own ?

how could they prove the identity of the rider if a violation occurred ?
"It wasn't me, I've loaned my motorcycle out to other friends before, and I have a couple different helmets."

Fer crying out loud, do they think that they're in England ?

Agreed, and I do not think this would be acceptable here in Denmark, in fact I am pretty sure that a few laws would be bent or broken, should the police find it opportune to do such a thing.

I took the opportunity to browse a little from the link given above and found this nice little site: http://www.walesbybike.com

Having been to North Wales whilst not riding a motorcycle on a public holiday (I was there all week),  I have to say that there is a significant minority who are using the scenic areas as race tracks and are a menace to themselves and others.

That day (Spring Bank Holiday), I had one motoryclist come round the corner on the wrong side of the road and I almost had him and his young pillion across the bonnet of my car.  I saw two other smashed up bikes on 'dodgy corners' and was delayed whilst the Police/Ambulances were at 'the scene'.  I was also overtaken regularly on bends and in the face of oncoming traffic, by large groups of sport bike riders.  Couple that with the fact that every village/town/garage is full to bursting with motorcyclists milling around and parking in all sort of stupid places, make you wonder why the up and coming knee jerk reaction has not been more severe!

What people need to do is stop congregating at scenic 'hotspots' at peak times in very large numbers and making a nuisance of themselves.  Use a bit of common sense and a bit of imagination and by all means go out for a ride but select your destination carefully.

And if you want to visit a 'hotspot', do it on a day when half the world won't be turning up with you.  You will enjoy it far more.

Also, if you must ride a bike that is not legal - expect to get your collar felt by the boys in blue and stop bleating about it being heavy handed!

Rant over

Pardon me for being a cynic, but i do not believe that the SF police are stopping and photographing all bikers for possible traffic violations.  What a crock!  They are building up a database of bikers for some other law-enforcement "initiative". [smiley=behead.gif]

C'mon now, Steve, if people couldn't congregate and make a general nuisance of themselves then we would have to disband congress (for us) or parliment (for you)!   [smiley=ROTFLMAO.gif]

Na, that would never happen - where else would any of us have such a rich source of nightly entertainment on the evening television programs !

You might be right about the parliament/congress thing......

And some people just have to be where the crowd is.

I will be enjoying the deserted roads closer to home, as everyone else is stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway trying to get to the coast or any other Beauty Spot so that they can join the crowds that they are trying to get away from!

Fnurk!

I  towed my caravan to Harlech this summer took the route in from Oswestry to Barmouth to avoid the mountain tracks, must admit didn't run into that many bikes even though the Classic Bike show was on in Llangollen (it was a Monday though) but whilst driving about during the week i did come across groups of riders of mainly sports bikes behaving badly.
I think the herd instinct kicks in ie, if hes passed it i can ect ive spent alot of time in that area walking touring ect and learned to expect anything round the next bend be it a washed out road wild animals or walkers in the road. As long as people put there brains in gear they should be safe sadly there are always some that don't.
Even so a more targeted approach to the problem would have the desired effect rather than just pulling you because your on two wheels. The sports car and rally car guys are just as bad.
