It might be OK and it might be (s)crap, hard to tell with those bikes. Even though they have a small mileage they may have been handled very roughly and you really cannot tell before it is too late. Another problem is that although it is a 650 cc engine it probably is a low power version, 37 HP  as the standard Danish army r65 G/S (which stands for Gelände/Strasse ~ country/street)  had and not the 50HP as the standard civilian version had.

I myself nearly bought one, as I live very near one of the main depots of the army, but was adviced to buy the r65 instead.

Ya gotta admit, Trolle, that WOULD be a really neat "project bike" to take apart and replace what is worn out, powdercoat the frame and then get it repainted  ;)

It it's a 1990 then wouldn't it have the same frame as the larger engined bikes?  I think it would be more fun to fix up say, my bike, with increased suspension and traction.  Now if only I was as talented as Steve!

Oh yeah, and strip the weight down as much as possible too.  Dang, there goes the 'Jammer.   :-/

That was my plan, but it was vetoed!  :(

The r65G/S produced from 1987-1992 had the same frame as the r80G/S which was produced from 1980-1987. This frame is not the one used for the bigger r100G/S.

Hmmmmmm....... Trolle, I still think you ought to somehow "sneak" it in!  (Easier to ask for "forgiveness" than "permission" sometimes!)  ;D

There speaks the voice of experience!

The campaign to source a second bike lasted 8 months for me.

Even after 8 months, I still did not have 'permission' as such.

But then a local bike comes up, and the lady was away, and the money was in the bank.

Too good to miss.......I am afraid!

Apologies after the fact......

She later admitted to wondering what had taken me so long....

I am a whimp, I know, but the last time I asked for forgiveness it took almost five years, and as I love the lady (my wife, not the bike) I cannot see myself as a divorcee.

Maybe next year, when I have walked around pining for something worthwhile to do for several months, she might suggest, that I get myself a project bike. Oh it is nice to have dreams...
