Fairing for the R65????
« on: August 17, 2008, 09:54:05 AM »
Good day, does anyone have experience with a Luftmeister fairing on their R65?  How about a Vetter Windjammer?  Are these too big and bulky for the R65? Please email if you have any experience with these or other fairings; I'm looking to buy. step2it@comcast.net  thanks, aldo in southern new jersey

I do not have any experience with Luftmeisters, but I saw a pic of a R65 with a Windjammer elsewhere on this forum, and I thought it looks quite good.

A Windjammer has been mounted on my Kawasaki, and it makes a huge difference in bad riding conditions. If I can find another Windjammer at a good price locally, I will mount it on my R65 as well - perhaps I will just shorten the screen.

My R65 is pictured somewhere on this forum, I believe in a Chief Joseph rally post about two years ago.  The color doesn't match, and I don't think any fairing really looks good (sorry S fans!) but it sure is nice in the cold.  I don't need heated anything with that.  It doesn't seem to slow the bike down or decrease gas mileage.

If you buy one and ride your R65 in the summer, you better make up a convertible harness so you can remove the fairing when it's hot.  The things suck in warm weather, anything over 80.  I still haven't got around to making up a harness to ride the bike naked but it's on my to do list, if nothing else just in case the Triumph ever breaks down in the summer.

Don't pay much for one if you buy it; some people throw them away.  The hard part may be finding the mounting bracket, which is R65 specific I believe.

I did't pay much for my Windjammer either - I do have mixed feelings about the deal though.

During a long unpleasant trip, (windy conditions) I decided to buy myself a fairing - so I started shopping around, and found the Windjammer  at a local bike shop - who specialise in selling second hand spareparts.

The salesman told me that the fairing was lying on the shelf for years, and after I started passing a few negative comments about the fairing, the salesman really became talkative - telling me and a few other bikers at the counter exactly how bad the fairing really is.

So when I asked him "And how much would you ask for a piece of junk like this" - he hessitated slightly and said: "R200"  (about US$25.00) ........and I immediately clinched the deal.

When I went back to the bike shop afterwards, the salesman was not as talkative as usual. He told me that he has charged me way too less for the fairing............

Late to the game but here are pictures of my R65 mit Luftmeister.  If I had my druthers I would have a Hannigan ST.  But I have been accross the country behind the Lufty.  This spring I had to re-weld the fairing mount.  I had cracked it in three places.  Quite bulky.

Joel Rappaport replaced his Lufty on his R60/5 with the Hannigan and his fuel mileage went up 5 mpg.

Another picture of me and Not so fast ED and his neat Rifle handle bar mount on his late model R65 mono shocker.  He wants a taller windscreen.

Actually my Rifle is attached with 4 mounts onto the forks - tops and tubes.

Nowhere near as much coverage as those two lovely fairings, but does reduce the pressure on my chest and deflects some rain as well.

I guess no fairing post would be complete without a Quicksilver...

Mr Smart - Nice lowers!

Jutsin - The quick silver is probably the right sized of the older fairings.  Looks clean on the R65.

Bill, that was my thought when I started looking for one.  I personally like the Windjammers on the bigger bikes but, IMHO, they look kinda out of proportion on an R65.  But, not too much so...

If I opted for a full fairing on my R, I would go for a RT fairing. Personally, I hate full fairings. I just bought a medium windscreen for the colder season.

To the guy w/the bike in the first photo on this topic. What kind of luggage system is mounted on your bike & is the bike a r65?

Bill's R65 has a nice three piece, top-opening, "Givi"  (spelling?) set in the first set of pictures.  When camping he lives out of them without needing to empty, or remove them from the bike.  Besides riding it all over the country, it's his "daily driver" to work.
