I think what fixer's referring to is more like this, isn't it? The backrest & pad?
The Reynolds parts usually (always?) have a 3-digit part number on an attachment somewhere.
Here's a link to the line of BMW accessories, all long out of manufacture.

ps: If you've got a #268 luggage rack & want to sell it, please holler back asap, okay?
Thanks!

Yeah, I bought one of those backrests when I bought my rack.  It has only been used one time that I can remember.  Still looks like new.  I always thought the black vinyl clashed with the brown seat.

umm, ok... it's NOT a "sissy bar"  ::)

upon closer inspection, it's got a sticker in the rear center of the rack, and i can just barely make out parts of it, including "REYNOLDS" and Salt Lake City, UT.

since the sis... whups, back rest and pad is removable.. i'll probably just pull that and keep the rack part.

not overly concerned about weight, but i'm 6'2", and was kicking it when mounting/dismounting.

in the bad pic of it, there's a bike cover on the rack, which spells like cat piss.. that's in the side yard now, and i gotta hose it off this weekend.

i got to the DMV *just* after 5 and they wouldn't let me in.. so i'll probably have to go first thing on saturday.

my first impression was that the rack might be some cheapie junk from JC Whitney.

thanks!

Nah, sissy bars went way up high.

BMW's have "backrests".  ::)

I take it a "dide year" is a trash can?

Let us know what the key code is on your luggage.  I think mine is 042.  If you are lucky enough to have the same code, I would be happy to have a couple of keys made for you.

whups! "side yard"... where i keep the cans, but not IN the trash... it'll get hosed off and then run thru the wash, or just scrubbed in the tub. may need it at some point in the future, but i'll be clearing spack in the garage for the new scoot!

thanks for the offer, but no such luck, mine is 057 and the latch on the right case that locks it to the frame was apparently broken before the sale... 'cause i didn't do anything to force it.
