Hi Guys,

I've been AWOL for months and Bill Emery suggested I let you know where I'm at so here goes:

My wife Margaret Mary had a series of health problems over the past 18 months and was in and out of hospitals with cardiac problems so motorcycling took a back seat.

Then she recovered from her worst condition and I began having problems with my 74 years old right hip and leg. That made it awkward to hold my R65 up when stationary at traffic lights and in traffic so I have only ridden it twice in the past six months. I began solely riding my light kick-start Honda CT110 but over the past month have had knee problems kick-starting it. Ageing is bad news.

I had to find a way to keep riding and after much prevarication and backing away from selling my R65 I decided to sell it, sell the Honda CT110, and buy a light bike with electric start.

I sold the '85 Blue Beauty R65 in 24 hours after advertising it this week and advertised the CT110 today. When the garage is empty I'll buy a Honda CB250 Nighthawk which ended production in 2005.

The  CB250 Nighthawk crew are similar to this group - enthusiastic and helpful -  they're at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/CB250_Nighthawk/messages?o=1 .

The CB250 should keep me riding for another five years or so and every year after that will be a bonus.  I'll keep my R65.org badge on my jacket and add a CB250 patch. My wife suggested that I keep the R65 in the garage but what's the point - it's better for someone else to have the benefit of riding it and better for the bike to be on the road.

My R65 was bought by a fellow in Sydney, Australia, for his son who is a 220lb rugby player, it'll be ideal for him.

Best wishes to all of you for the holiday season and 2007, it's been a pleasure to associate with you.

I hope the Nighthawk works out for you.  I bet they're nice, light bikes to ride.  Try to stay fit.

Leo, I am so happy to hear from you and hear that you have worked out a solution to ensure continued motorcycle riding!! My gentleman friend is 72 and his knees are starting to pain. There isn't much good about getting older is there? But with a little thought and understanding of yourself, I guess you have a great solution. I think it was very, very nice of your wife to say you might want to keep the R65 anyway.

Have fun on the new bike!!!  And, don't be a stranger.

Leo,
It's so good to hear from you.  Thanks for letting us know what's up.  I'm so sorry that your wife has not been well but glad to hear that she is doing better.

And I'm sorry to hear that your knee and hip are giving you trouble.  They say that getting older is not for wimps.  It's darn hard work.  But we can make it more fun by keeping up doing the things we love to do.  So have fun Leo.  Keep in touch once in awhile and let us know how things are going.  I'm glad you've found a bike you can ride.  Makes me feel that there is hope for the (not to far) future.

One older lady I know just sold her F650 for a Yellow Honda Scooter250cc.  Then she traded up for the black 600cc.  No more shifting and lots of storage under the seat.  She likes the easy on and off and still participates in Club rides.
