Should we think about registering a domain name?
« on: December 09, 2006, 04:47:06 PM »
Well, it's been about a month since this site has been up and I am trying to decide if we should come up with a domain name and register it.  Any thoughts?

Yeah.  If we could get hold of sloth some way, could we get his?  I would pitch in a few bucks.

Sure, we could probably "buy" it from him, if he could be found.  It's almost like the ground opened up and swallerd 'im! :-?

I might still have a local contact for him.  I bought a fairing from one of his local club members in '05.  I think I still have that e-mail.  Maybe he can help us find him.

I have gotten personal e-Mails from him in the past and have not had any responses to messages sent to that address.  and, I did NOT get a delivery failure receipt...

Just as an idea, the following domain names are currently available:

r65.us
bmwr65.com
bmwr65.org
bmwr65.net
bmwr65.us

Pricing through Network Solutions would be as follows:

                1 Year        2 Years        3 Years        5 Years        10 Years        100 Years
.COM$    $34.99       $29.99          $24.99           $19.99          $14.99           $9.99
.NET       $34.99       $29.99          $24.99           $19.99          $14.99           $9.99
.ORG      $34.99       $29.99          $24.99           $19.99          $14.99           $9.99
.US        $34.99        $29.99          $24.99           $19.99          $14.99           $9.99

The prices shown are per year pricing.  So, for example, 10 year registration would be 10 x $14.99 or $149.

I found sloths' phone # and talked to him.  He is happy to work with us!  Apparently he never got anyone's email...

I am sending you his phone # in a PM.  He is expecting your call.   :)

On pricing -

I suspect sloth's domain name costs about the same.

If we could just get 10 of the regulars to contribute $15 ( EXCLUDING Justin...), that would take care of it for 10 years.

I'm in!!!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

If there's ANY way we could get r65.org to use, I think that would be THE way to go! (IMHO, that is...)

Great idea.   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]   I'm in.

Hopefully we'll be able to get the R65.org.  Then the patches won't be outdated.  But if we can't then we'll just have some very rare and valuable patches.   [smiley=wink.gif]

If I get to go to the Boxerworks Forum Rally in May (post on there a couple of times, and you will be welcome, also!), I am going to crash stop overnight at sloth's on the way down!  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

(I need something better than paintbrush, I think...)

Your cow's reply should be "No, really, I'm fine!"
