For a variety of reasons, my bike has been sitting for a while, not ridden much at all since spring (started up a few times and around the block).
Started messing with it finally and it's running very roughly. It'll start (not super easily, but it will) and needs some throttle to stay idling. It stumbles when revved up, but then will smooth out if I hold it open. It will idle but only at a bit higher than normal.
So my question is - is there one particular area that I could check and clear with the carb still on the bike? Or will a complete teardown be necessary to get it going (obviously that would be optimal, but hoping I could just get it going for now, do a complete rebuild later). I've read about the 2 tiny passages under the butterfly that are prone to getting gunked up and causing problems that sound like mine.
I've already drained the tank and put fresh fuel in. I mentioned "ran when parked" because the carbs were set up OK the last time I rode a while back, so I'm guessing/hoping this is just a matter of ethanol fuel sitting too long.
Any tips would be appreciated. Please don't be too harsh in your criticisms although I do deserve it for my neglect.
Thanks
