Fuel Line Size

If I'm seeing it correctly, Max shows two different diameters.  What I have now is standard braided cloth covered but I don't know what size.  Does anyone know why there are two different ones and how do I know which is correct?

Also, ant recommendations for an off-the-shelf alternative?  (Justin - do you get something locally, non-BMW?)

I've used .250 inch fuel line for over 35 years .
No issues and have never used any clamps on the lines .

Hi Bob Roller - do you mean you've been using just any .250 in fuel line you can find?  I'm not too particular as long as it holds.

I've still got what came on my bike when I bought it.  I've got one piece with a bad end, but still enough length to trim it.  But I'll probably need to replace it all some day so was trying to figure out what's a proper fit since I'm not sure what size I've got on there now.

I've used prepackaged fuel line for a chain type auto parts store and fuel line from NAPA  auto parts .
Only issue i had, was when I got fuel line from NAPA about 5 years ago, they had mislabeled vacuum line as fuel line .

Ok, thanks.  For the small piece I need to replace, maybe I'll try that.

I'm still curious as to what the proper metric size is and why Max shows two different ones, if anyone knows........?

I think the cloth braided OEM fuel line is 7 mm, .250 inch line, is 6 mm .

And I think those are the two different sizes they show.  And they have ID & OD showing and both are different so it doesn't appear to be a misprint.

I've replaced the fuel hoses once, have had no problems with what I got from the local auto store. I also don't use any hose clamps.
Wrote down that what I have is ID 6.4mm, OD 12.5mm and this is the max OD wouldn't want any larger OD going under the airbox.  Sorry you'll have to do the conversions to inch on google et al.

From what you two have said, it sounds like there's a bigger range than I thought would work.

Just got back from the mountains!  I use the 1/4" Bing blue urethane fuel line from Aircraft Spruce.

I just purchased 7mm cloth covered line on Ebay. Works good no clamps..... have had the fuel line off and on multiple times working on the carbs, still comes off easy, goes on tight, no leaks.

Since Wilcom mentions it's easy to get 7mm off I have to admit 6.4mm ID is a bit of a twist and struggle to get off but there's no wrong in that I reckon...they normally sit for long periods without having to do that!

Thanks for all of the recommendations.  I was looking for what would work that I could get locally just for a quick fix on a short piece, but also what was proper since I should probably re-do all of them soon anyway.  Sounds like I have several options.

Justin - do you use clamps on the blue stuff or is it clamp-less?

I just slide it on and it holds very tight, no clamps needed.  The blue Bing fuel line is supposed to be alcohol resistant.

I've just replaced mine with 6.2mm hose as that is all i could get that would fit tight enough.
