These are the last pair I had (still have).  I bought them for the CBR250R.  They are made for a bike with fairing-mounted mirrors (no holes for stalks) and bar-end weights.
They have small rubber sleeves that slip over the bar-ends, and that pretty much keeps them from moving.  But they also have a metal bar that connects the two.

I just got mine in from Tom Cutter and they were the R65GS ones that he said would fit. They fit perfect.....BUT...... my bike had ape hanger bars when I got it. I changed to a set I had that were about 1 1/2 inch rise. They looked low like original and they gave my back a little love. HOWEVER...... The right side guard will not clear the fairing without some heavy butchering{{{{shudder the thought}}}}. Now I'm on the hunt for some stock LS bars..... oh the agony

I still have not ordered any handguards, I've had other stuff in the way.

Coincidentally, I'd lost the email address of the one guy at ECS Tuning who said he'd be willing to help figure out what BMW motorcycle parts they can actually get, if I'd send him a list.

I just found the scrap of paper with his email info so I was going to contact him on Monday and see what he could find.

The ones that you got - did they resemble the pics that have been posted here already?  And how much from Tom?

They were the R65GS guards.(pic below)

I had emailed both styles to Tom Cutter in the morning and rang him up in the PM. He knew which ones I needed  looked them up ordered them for me. He could not get them in black but I went with the white and painted them with fabric and vinyl paint from the local parts store.

The cost was $39 plus shipping for me as I am on the other side of the country from Tom. I think they were $53 by the time the postman knocked on my door.

Tom Cutter was the guy at Butler & Smith to receive the new R65 when they came to the States in 1978. His job was to take it apart and see what made it tic and put it back together again. You just can't beat experience like that. He gives back to the community daily on line and off loads his knowledge  freely. For that, I will wait a day longer and pay a lil bit more postage  just to say thanks. Not to mention its the right stuff when I open the box.

As you can see I don't have the stock LS bars. When I purchased the bike it had Ape Hangers on it and I had these bars on the shelf and it worked. I'm searching for standard LS bars now as I had to rotate these down to make clearance between the guard and the fairing.

I was able to find a set of "official" R65LS bars from "Stoners Beemer stash" yesterday. He sells used beemer stuff and has all kinds of stuff at decent prices. He saw my post on line and emailed me to come on down ( he lives 7 miles from me)rummage thru his handlebar stash and sure enough he had a set, part number and everything. He parted with the bars and 200 old cycle magazines for $75.

It all fits together nicely and I was able to get the master cylinder in closer and tighten/slim the cockpit. About 1 inch less rise than before..........hopefully it won't be a back killer.

I also have an r65 LS with the bars you started out with. Just a quick question: did you have to change the cables when you put the original bars on the bike?

If you mean the original bars I started out with which would be the Ape hanger bars( see pic) Yes and no.......

Everything worked fine except the clutch. It worked but was obviously too long and bowed out on the right side of the bike, but it did "work". The brake cable was ok as I was going from tall bars to low, the other way around and I would have to gotten a longer brake hose. I searched Real OEM for choke and throttle cables for the high bars and low bars but only found one listed.

If you meant the last change( see pic) , I used the same cables as the difference in the two bars is really minimal

I actually call the bars that were on the bike "good fortune"

The bike languished on Craigslist for some time before I discovered it 1000 miles away from me. I believe the reason it didn't sell were those bars, everyone took a look at those and wondered what "other" atrocities might be lingering elsewhere on the bike. I took a chance and was able to put it in my garage for $1000 less than it would have brought here in the CA Southland plus a nice road trip.

I finally got around to orderingn the handguards from ECS.  There were a couple of delays but they finally showed up today.  For those who read the beginning of this thread, I had talked to several people at ECS about motorcycle parts and got different answers about whether they could get them or not.

I was able to get these along with a few carburetor parts.  It appears to be hit or miss with these, so I probably wouldn't try if you were in a hurry.  And even though the one story I got had to do with "only the things we actually stock in our warehouse are available", my things were ordered from elsewhere first (part of the delay).
Soooo, I was doing it as a test and I'd say it kind of worked, just a little slow and me wondering the whole time when I'd get the email saying things weren't available.

I did not install today but did a dry fit on the brake lever side.  For fitment, the only possible issue I saw was where the guard goes over the bigger end of the brake cable.  I'm not sure if that part of the cable will interfere with the holes for the screws right there.  But it does look like it fits fine around the master cylinder and I think that's where some others had problems.
