Sorry, I said free shipping at ECS, but it's free over $49.  I was getting some other things so it'll be free for my order.

But when I looked a couple of days ago, they were less than $44.  Either the price changed or maybe they have more than one listed?

Maybe bad news about ECS - just had a live chat there and this guy told me that they only deal with BMW automotive parts and that motorcycle parts orders usually get cancelled.  I told him about my conversation with the previous guy and he apologized but said that guy was incorrect.

The guy I talked to first didn't seem vague or anything, and was pretty detailed about how it worked.  Now I'm not sure who to believe. The gut today told I was welcome to try, and every once in a whole something gets through.  But most of the time it gets cancelled.

Got a reply from AS and the answer was YES the mounting hardware is included. Sent my order off a short while ago. It is snowing here in Brooklyn as we speak , so am looking forward to receiving the hand guards!

I have been following your hand guard thread and want a pair for my "wind in tour face" LS. I'm interested to know which set they have. There were two types discussed earlier but both carried the same  part number? I like the set that covers the MC. (and I'm sure stating that will be the kiss of death for my preference LOL)

And these are the pics that started me wondering Wilcom.  They are obviously very different in the drawn versions.  But in most of the photographs, it's hard to see the details.

That's why I was asking here.  I couldn't figure out if there were 2 different versions, if one or both was a direct fit, and how to get one or the other if 2 differents actually exist.

Who'd have thought a couple of pieces of plastic would be so complicated??

The handguards arrived yesterday and I spent around 30 minutes installing them. They are the black ones shown in the first post of this thread and came with the hardware.

Only problems were, the right side guard where the brake reservoir is cannot be screwed in as the fitting for the brake interferes with the holes. My workaround is a zip tie to help secure it.

My other problem was that I had rotated the clutch lever to make the clutch cable lie flatter so there is less chance of it breaking (see the thread about clutch cable from earlier this year). This made the guard lower than it should be. I re turned the clutch lever up so it now covers the hand better.

Will take a ride later ( it is 19 F, -7C outside) and try and get some photos!

Thanks for the update JP.  I got busy with work and holiday stuff so I hadn't done anything yet, but was thinking about calling ECS today and seeing what the next person will say.  I was going to try to order from them but was going to ask how long it takes before they know if it will go through or be cancelled.

Took my ride, and it was very cold. My first impression was, "Gee these work great". Was doing errands so had to make a number of stops that involved getting on and off the bike and removing my gloves. The longest part of the ride was my first stop, which was the furthest. A ride I take often (to the Grog shop for a bottle of wine). Last time I did this it was 20 F warmer, and my fingers were cold. This time not. However the cumulative effect of removing  and re donning my gloves multiple times was cold fingers. But not as cold as they could of been. I did not use my heated liners this trip, but imagine they would also help.

Apologies for the photo as it is not the best. Took it before I used the zip tie.

I like'm!!  Going to get a set for the LS. I'm a full fairing guy but cannot bring myself to bastardize a stock LS just for winter comfort. These may help a bunch, the first thing that go's  are my hands........

That's what I was looking for, just a bit of a windbreak.  I don't need the full on Hippo Hands type.

Thanks for the feed back. I believe they are the same as Rob's . AS in California did not have them in stock, but did not take long to arrive (11 days, from ordering, with the Christmas weekend in the way). Like to hear your experience.

I'm wondering: for the purpose of keeping fingers a little warmer in cold weather, will these do the trick? Is there a significant advantage to something like this ? Anyone happen to have experience with both?

Those are what I was referring to as the Hippo Hands. There are a lot of different types, some better than others, from what I've read. Both in quality of how they're put together and also how easy they are to deal with - clearance of controls, getting hands in and out, etc.

I think it's recommended to use some time of plastic/rigid hand guard along with the warmers because wind can push against them on there own and cause problems with your levers.

I don't have the need so didn't look into them into much detail. But I know Hippo Hands are popular.  There is also a guy on ADV that makes them and I think they're pretty popular. I can't remember his name but he sells tool rolls, bags, saddlebag liners and such.  Storm Industries.

The Storm Industries guy does custom stuff and gets a lot of good feedback, from what I've seen.  He makes case/pannier liners to your specs, tool rolls, etc. And he does other things as well like a bag especially for the Kermit Chair.
Seems like a nice guy and people on ADV really seem to like his work.
