Oil leak from the Brake Cam
« on: July 22, 2017, 08:35:49 PM »
I  have been having  problems with an  oil leak from the brake cam
Of course it likes to leak when I am on a long trip
and get all over the side of the tire
So I am going try these
Mcmaster Carr Part #1200N185
I just install them today and I think they are going to work much better than the standard O ring that is specified in the Parts book
The feel like they have better tension in the housing and should seal better
I will  update if I have any problems
I have the type of housing that does not have the tube that the cam runs thru

Good luck.

I had the problem last year after re-assembling the bike without replacing the o-rings and was really scared by the amount of oil that had distributed itself around my rear tyre. Damn dangerous.

I pulled the shaft (because I didn't have anything to remove the o-rings without damaging them and it was about 30 minutes before the shop closed on a Saturday), went to a really great local auto-supplies store where they matched them, charged me about $1 and no problems since.

I've gotten into the habit of replacing these  O-rings every time I have a rear tire replaced .

Only takes 10 minutes or so to replace them .

So you used an O ring of larger section and in the new vs old pic,   new is on the left and old on the right with two O rings stacked on top of each other. Is that correct ?

No (I am pretty sure).
The old is on the left.  The new, which has a non-round cross-section (X-ring?), is on the right.
