Problem with a clock

Hello !
In the early '80, I bought a clock with it's pod for the R65. It was an electric clock with white numerals and without BMW marking. It was sold by Racimex in Germany and was made by Motometer.
This clock died a couple of years ago. it seems not fixable.
So I bough second hand a Motometer Quartz clock made by Motometer and with BMW markings.
It does not fit into the original pod. The two threaded  posts are not aligned  with the holes and the adjustment pin is on a larger diameter than it should.
I searched a pod thinking my pod was  somewhat different. The one I god is certified to have contained a  BMW clock.
Guess what ? My clock does not fit into it. Same problem.
I would like to know if someone had the same problem and if  he solved it....

The new clock you bought, is probably not from an airhead bike .

George those clocks are incredibly reliable, the only thing that seems to ever stop them is rust on the shaft the "hands" mount on and the capacitors fail. I have repaired a large number by simply replacing the capacitors.

In regards to your immediate problem - the only solution I can think of is for you (or an instrument shop) open both clocks and swap the bottom "can" over.


My I also make a request - could you please post photos of the pod mount on the motorcycle and how the pod attaches to the mount. Some time ago a very kind member of this forum sent me a broken pod - I tried to make a mold that could be used in a friends plastic extrusion plant, but I failed utterly.

However as I still have the pod i intend to repair it properly and use it.

I though so, Bob, but I checked with a "new" BMW airhead clock at the local Guru shop. Same problem. Alas he did not had a spare pod to ascertain the difference.
Tony, the white numerals clock is "beyond repair" said to me the watchmaker I contacted. The shafts have worn out their bearings. The clock runs for a couple of minutes then seize. It is a Kienzle mechanism for which he can't get any parts ( too old, too cheap to be repaired, who knows) This is why I bought a "new" one.
I'll try to take a couple of picts tonight.

I had to force a little bit to refit the clock into it's pod and I've stripped the Allen part of the plastic screw... which was not in very good shape.
Dismantling the whole to take picture is, how could I say, an unnerving task.
So I'll let the clock live it's life for now  and let my blood pressure lower a bit.
I will for sure dismount the clock, at least when we will switch to daylight saving time in summer or if I've to remove the battery.

George - what I am after is actually a picture of the mount that fixes the pod to the bike.

Any chance?

it is a rubber cylinder pod with one female thread on one side and one male thread on the other side.

This issue was fixed in the "old " software. Justin, I believe found the option to have the site resize to it's liking any pic tossed it's way. Sure beats 500 folks resizing pics ..........just say'n

Yes resizing will work. But these picts are only 2MPx and you will need to zoom in to see how things work. So resizing is not so practical.

The photos were exactly what I needed.

Turns out i have a left and right mounting bracket - bought them a very long time ago intending to fit accessory instruments to the wife's R65/80 - never did either because the pods themselves became NLA or were too damm expensive.

I will speed up my repairs to the broken pod gifted to me and then look into adapting a rubber stopper to act as the shock-absorber on the end of the mount.
