Turn Signal Mods?

I have noticed that my turn signals are manually operated completely. Most bikes for the 90's to current has an indicator that turns off your blinker after you make the corner or at least has an easy "push" to turn off the blinker. Mine doesn't and I assume that is normal... and if it is - is there a mod/upgrade that makes this possible? Thanks in advance!

There are some aftermarket electronics to cancel the turn signals, Kisan Siganl Minder or something like that, seems to come to mind  .

I've been cancelling  the signals on my '81 R65 for coming  up on 36 years, never even think about it .

My Guzzi is the same way, manually cancel .

Coincidentally, I was just reading about this stuff last night.  Kept hearing about the Kisan setup Bob mentions but that the price turns a lot of people off - I think $100+?

I'm fine with manual cancel except that I am constantly forgetting.  I hear most people think the BMW beeper thing was annoying.  My problem is that my dash lights are super dim.  Anyone have a suggestion for brighter LED's (or something) there?

I tried some LED replacement bulbs for turn signals in the instrument cluster and indicator internal lighting and was not impressed, they were dimmer in the daylight than incandescent for turn signals and instrument lighting was not improved at all .

This was 10 years ago, I'm sure they much improved over the bulbs I bought .

One important fact that I wasn't aware of then, is to match the color of the LED, to the lens it will be shining through .

One of our members here NHMAF used some LED bulbs from this company for indicator light s and was satisfied with them, hopefully he can comment on this .

And daylight is the worst for me and when I need it most.  You can probably relate, living in a sunny state.  I said LED just because - but I'd be happy with anything brighter.  I saw where a guy rigged up a separate light (a tiny led and diode that he put in the trim of his windshield) which could be an option.  But I'd rather just have the ones that are there brighter.  Ditto for the instrument lights, those are super dull on mine as well.

I will look into it - it's not like I mind canceling myself - just sometimes it is inconvenient or I forget. I saw someone install later model harley grips and electronics on his bmw.. can't seem to find it now - but it was quite cool. I'm sure it took some effort though.

I can't help with the fancy turn signal things.  I have seen different types and styles of handlebar buttons and seems like I have seen some for turning the signal switch into a push button version.  But when I see that kind of stuff it's usually for the people who are stripping down and getting rid of things.  Not sure that would work in your case since you didn't mention getting rid of any of the other stock stuff.  Adding one of those wouldn't do much good if you still have to keep the other original handlebar controls.

Bob - do you know what type of bulbs reside under the instruments (for cross reference)?  I vaguely remember the post you mentioned from NHMAF, I'll try to search ............

I built a beeper that beeps when they have been on for more than 5 seconds with out the clutch pulled in or it is in gear

The schematic below is the simple one without the timer
it kills the beeper when it is in neutral or the clutch is pulled in  
This is basically the stock system on the early R65
The BMW wire diagrams  are so complicated looking because the show everything on one print

If I can't find anything to make my indicator lights brighter, I may ask if you can give details on your diagram above.  Not sure about the timer part but the rest sounds like the stock BMW setup that only beeped/buzzed if you left them on when you were riding.

FYI - For anyone looking at the turn signal LED's linked above, I was able to find the lights on eBay for about 1/2 of what they are in the stores and the relay was available at O'Reilly's, right on the shelf.  (Got the parts, haven't installed yet so can't report on that).

I have the beeper as stock on the early model and find it to be a useful safety feature once the volume is toned down a bit. The 5 sec delay is a nice idea that would be ideal in most circumstances but in a left turn (right turn in US) the beeper is a handy way of getting pedestrians attention as they are are about to walk out into your path without looking.

FYI
The problem I  had was finding a peeper that was loud enough
In order to hear  mine I had to  mount it  right under the dash pad pointing back  

The above circuit requires a beeper that is not polarity sensitive
I found a Beeper that was not polarity sensitive but it was not load enough
So i had to put a bridge rectifier in it

This set up does work with LED Turn signal bulbs but I still have the standard bulbs in the dash

The beeper gets its ground thru the side that is not being flashed
That is why you need a Beeper that is not polarity sensitive or a bridge rectifier

Below is how mine is built it has the timer and a rectifier for the beeper

But I would just build it with out the delay timer

If you just want a sound with no delay function simply wire in two separate buzzers , one for each direction.At less than $5 each it would be quick and simple. The devices could probably be mounted one each inside the front indicator housings.
