Check the R65 Technical FAQ/Procedures section for a fantastic photo essay for a DIY Bean Can overhaul.
Info is hot off the Airlist for 17 October 2016. Thank you, Joe Stroup.
I notice that they gloss over the fun part of removing the failed transistor and setting the rivets on the new one, I also see no mention of the way of calculating the length of the fly leads inside the housing - too short is a bit of a bugger and too long will eventually result in the "bell" grabbing one or more wires with very predictable results.
Also not all Beancans have the same number of washers ( I prefer to call them shims) and they also do not necessarily have equal numbers either side of the housing. I have never figured out with any satisfaction exactly what is being shimmed to what clearance - I suggest making a note of how many were on each side and putting them back together the same way.
Lastly, the commentary on refurbishing the accursed advance/retard mech is a bit lacking.
