K75 Transmission Input Spline Lube
« on: September 18, 2016, 06:52:13 PM »
Anyone have any experience in a K75 spline lube ??

An '88 K75s is for sale locally for $2895 but needs a spline lube .

Any more involved than an airhead spline lube ??

Like I need another bike in the garage !!! ::) ::) ::)

Thanks !!!!

Looks like a bit more work than an airhead .

I'll be going over to the seller in the next couple of weeks, the bike has been up for sale three times in the last 9 months  .

I'll try to low ball him and see what happens !!! ;) ;) ;)

I haven't done it myself, but my cousin has done his numerous times - it is more involved partly due to the swingarm and battery holder issues, but is certainly do-able.  What is the mileage on the bike?

One potentially weak spot is a jackshaft that is buried deep in the transmission assembly - don't usually fail until well over 150K miles, but when it goes, the amount of time and labor and parts to replace it makes it more economical to just by a whole new gearbox, or even engine w/gearbox, from BeemerBoneyard (which my cousin did also do).   It supposedly has a characteristic chattering sound if it is failing, but I don't have asound file of it.

The bike has 82,500 miles, 135,000 km .

So this should not be an issue, my bikes don't accumulate very many miles / km's anymore !!! :) :)

Maybe if or when I retire, they'll get used more . ;)

Just turned 60 in August .

Work sure isn't slowing down at all, thankful to have a somewhat secure job !!!!!

K75 is a joy machine but wife made me sell mine as I kept falling of it.. Had no issues with the engine gearbox or final drive.
The bike sells for for a lot less here i bought this for £600 and spent £200 on it + my time, sold it at a nice profit, The work to get it back on the road was all superficial, brakes however were an issue where i spent the most..go as fast as you want but if you cannot stop you are toast. Had an problem with the thermostat on a visit to Chris S but an easy fix

Motorcycles tend to cost more  here in the southwest, west coast, I guess you can use them all year round  .

On average, they are in very good condition, but tend to have higher mileage on them .

More ultilitarian use, not a seasonal vehicle like the northern  regions, where snow, ice and sub freezing temps are common for 5 months or so a year .

Good examples here !!!!! ;D ;D ;D

The original price on the first offering  for this K75 in January, was $5500 !!!!

I wonder what they will actually sell for, I can't imagine anyone paying close to what they are asking.
