Replacement disc rotors
« on: June 20, 2016, 12:58:29 AM »
There was a discussion recently about replacement rotors.

The first two photos are of a Yamaha RD400 disc that was an emergency adaptation consequent to discovering a cracked disc on my R100 just prior to departing on a major trip - this went on the rear and the one from the rear migrated to the front.

Yes it is as ugly as sin, but it worked perfectly, I really only spent more money and changed it because it was too thick to mount a new disc pad and I had to keep looking for 2nd hand Brembo pads to keep myself in rear brakes.

The next photo is of the disc fitted to the R65 - these were made in Sydney by a very popular BMW workshop/parts supplier by the name of Don Wilson. Sadly don passed away some years ago and his business morphed into one dedicated to the maximum extraction of $$s.

I have some self made discs on the R100, but from more than a metre away you can't tell them from the one on the R65. Mainly because I copied Don's when I made them.

Interesting....
Will the drilled double rotors from the LS series fit and work on the '87 Mono?

Short answer is I don't know and lots of stuff to do with the post 1985 airheads is a closed book to me.

Prior to 1985 Airhead discs came in "deep' and "shallow" disc carriers. AFAIK the LS had shallow carriers.
