Two black floats
« on: February 29, 2016, 12:49:16 PM »
My carbs have these two floats in place of the regular arrangement.  One carb has had infrequent flooding problems when the engine was off, but I can make due with it.  Is this two float system trouble prone?  If I decide to get into it, would you replace this arrangement with a single float one?

That's Bings independent float system which doesn't have the greatest reputation but it should be possible to make it work OK, perhaps the seat needs cleaning or the float valve needs replacing. If you want to revert to the standard floats you will also need new stock bowls.

All in all the independent float kit  was a very expensive an unnecessary modification.

The rubber tip on the float needle may have hardened and is not sealing properly or there may be a bit of debris holding the float needle off its seat. Easy to check.

I think that the problem is that the floats get stuck in the bowl so don't float ;-) and thus don't close the supply. I think I read somewhere that cutting the square ends is a cure. But don't bet your life on my memory and do some research.
Edit : Bing produced these to cope with ethanol fuels ... So a search for Bing ethanol may prove useful..

I would be happy to see those in my carbs  ;D
It tells you that the previous owner cared about the Bike enough to spend the extra money for that.
That ethanol resistant float conversion isn't cheap  :o

For a short time, Bing made black floats in the same style as the OEM white foam floats, they were far superior to the independent floats .

But they stopped producing them .
